I wrote a thread a couple of weeks ago that I thought I might be Hypoglycemic. Well my suspicions have been confirmed by my doctor. I have the type that I have to eat every 3 to 4 hours or I'll go into shock. I have my first real serious scare this morning. I was scared. luckily a Gater Aid helped me get though the worst of it but It took me almost three hours to feel normal again.

So my question is. What kind of things do you eat to help your blood sugar stay up. What kind of stuff do you eat if your in the situation I was in this morning. Have you ever had a serious problem (I don't know what you'd call it) like I had this morning.

my symptoms are: Shaking (my big turn on) dizzyness, Fatigue, headaches, and now a cold sweat (if I get desperite)

thank you so much!

I have the same symptoms and a lot of yawning, too. I have actually blacked out/ passed out before.

As you learn to live with it you will begin to notice signs before it gets too low.

If mine does drop I go for orange juice first. I try to stay away from chocolate because it tends to shoot it up so high and then turns around and crashes out again.

I was told and I do use this that if I feel it coming on to eat a spoonful of peanut butter. I usually always have some of the peanut butter filled crackers on hand along with hard candies or suckers. For the same reason of raising the sugar back up Popsicles seem to help a lot. they are very packed with sugar and very cooling.

Talk to people because many people have many different ideas that work for them and may be good for you.

good luck.

I have type 1 diabetes but I imagine the same foods that scare off hypoglycaemia in me will work for you too. You want to eat carbohydrates that last a long time in your body like oats, rice, sweet potatoes, wholegrain breads. Eating them with other things like protein can extend their effect.

The high sugar things are great for a scary hypo but it's probably good to treat a bad hypo with a small sugary drink followed by some of those slower carbs for a more even recovery

Overnight sounds like its a problem for you ...maybe you should try eating a bowl of cereal before bed ...nothing supersweet like loops, pops or honeysmacks cause this might be aggravating your insulin over-response ...something like porridge would be good

Take advantage of your hypoglycaemia by squeezing in some more vitamins in the form of fruit ...sugary, but much better for you than soda

I also avoid alcohol 'cause it does some very strange things to blood sugar levels both up then down. Hypoglycaemics can get hooked on alcohol 'cause it has such an immediate sugar rush ...eeek!

Have I ever had a serious problem like yours? ...YES!!! When I was a little kid I didn't get any physical warning of an oncoming hypo so I had more than 20 unconscious episodes ...or so my mum tells me. They were almost always in the morning like yours, after that long fast overnight, so I can sympathise completely

I hope I've helped you a little
good luck in your future (c;

I'm hypoglycemic as well. I try to avoid soda pop or similar drinks unless I'm having them with a 'hearty' meal. Also, although it is a pain, 5-6 smmmall meals a day. Adequate water intake. No candy, junk food, processed foods, white bread, anything. Fiber intake is good too. Don't drink alcohol either.

Low blood/sugar is usually caused by too much medication. When you don't eat, you need less medication. Be careful when taking medication after 3pm.
