Regular Kool Aid can do the same thing. I am assuming it is the food coloring. But others are right. Some artificial sweeteners give some people diarrhea. Particularly it is the ones that end in "ol" like Sorbitol, Xylotol and others. Generally the safer ones are aspartame like Equal contains. Most tooth pastes and SF candy and gum contain the ones ending in "ol".

I doubt it.
I drink sugar free kool-aid all the time (favorite flavor is cherry) and I have no problems with it.
Your son could be sensitive to the artificial sweetner used in kool-aid or even some other ingredient.
Also, it could have been something else he ate that just didn't agree with him.

Red dyes can turn your stool red but don't think the diarrhea alone comes from that. Unless he is sensitive to the red dye. Gastroenterologist request that patients don't drink red Kool Aid or eat red Jello before a test because it gives the appearance of intestinal bleeding.

Both sugar-loaded and sugar-free Kool Aid will do that pee-color trick because of their food coloring. In addition the sugar-loaded will make you fat.
I never heard of diarrhea from drinking Kool Aid.

The red dye used in the kool-aid will do that if consumed in excess! I never heard of it causing diarrhea though! A lot of dietetic foods will cause it if eaten in great amounts. You need to read the side of the box to see if it says excessive consumption will cause diarrhea. Good luck!

its the fake sugar that does that. I can handle the fake sugar in drinks (ie: kool aid diet pop) but when you get into the sugar alcohol in candy that's where I have to limit it.

It's possible. Black licorice, spinach and iron supplements can all have an effect on stool colour. I don't know about diarrhea.
