If you had to spend every moment of your life in freezing cold ocean waters, you would need that extra blubber and fat too.
We are not made to spend a lot of time in cold water. We do not have the physical resources to keep warm. Even with a wet suit, we would eventually freeze.
Swimming is terrific for us...great exercise, works all muscle groups. Then again, you don't see a whale doing freestyle or breast stroke, do you?

Whales constantly eat while they swim and they swim all day. Now if you eat burgers and nachos while swimming all day, you may give whale a darn good competition.

Whales swim in artic waters and must have a layer of fat or blubber to protect them from the cold.

WEEELLLLLLL! God made whales to be very large, look at their skeletal structure. We were not made to be that large though you wouldn't know it by looking around at the population. So don't blame the whales for their size. They had no choice on that.

They live in the very cold ocean where blubber is required to stay alive if you're warm-blooded, which whales are. Rest assured that they are also very muscular under the blubber.

Wales have blubber, not fat...it serves to keep them warm and other functions necessary for their survival.
