As usual, Alli is right on the money.

There is a vaccine in development/testing for HSV disease in women (unfortunately it does not work for men).

The immunization is a glycoprotein D-adjuvanted vaccine that has been demonstrated to protect against the acquisition of HSV disease in women who were seronegative (was not exposed to) HSV-1 AND HSV-2, but did not work for those who were already infected with HSV-1. It has not proven effective for men, regardless of whether they had/didn't have HSV-1 or HSV-2.

Protection against HSV disease was about 74% and protection against infection was 46% (seroconversion and symptomatic disease).

This vaccine, if further safety data suggests, may become available within the next decade.

If the FDA approves the vaccine, called Herpevac, it should be available in 2008.

I am not aware that there is a vaccine. Where have you heard about this?
