One of my friends has HPV and she's never been sexually active yet she still contracted the virus. So can it still transmit to the body without having sex or oral sex?

There are sexually transmitted kinds of HPV and NON sexually transmitted kinds of HPV.

NON sexually transmitted kinds of HPV can cause warts on the hands, feet, elbows, knees, etc.

Sexually transmitted kinds of HPV can cause genital warts, cervical cancer and other rare cancers like penile and anal cancer. Genital warts are considered a STD because the most common way of contracting them is by sex or sexual contact.

Even if your friend has never had sex it is still possible for her to contract HPV and have genital warts from it. HPV (and also herpes) can be contracted by DIRECT skin to skin contact even if she didn't have sex. Just the DIRECT skin to skin contact is enough to spread the virus.

There are over 100 types of HPV and most of them are not sexually transmitted. These include common warts that people get on their fingers, toes, or anywhere. If she has genital HPV, that almost always comes from sexual contact (even without intercourse.) It is passed from skin on skin contact, so just sexual touching without actual sex can transmit HPV.
In very rare cases, a woman can pass it to her baby, but that is highly unlikely.

i think that someone can be born with it. i have also heard that you can catch it from trying on bathing suits and underwear in department stores or even off a toilet seat, but i am not sure if this is true or not. she should get retested, maybe the test was wrong. good luck to her.
