Prior to this year, I must admit, I wasn't good at Green! My family has incorporated steps in our home (small as it may seem) to start living a more green life. We now have a 3-way-trash-bin (1-trash, 2-recycle, 3-paper) and we've started a compost. I know this may seem like small steps, but it's a start that the whole family can contribute to.

Let me see...
-All light bulbs switched over to energy savers
-Switch off stove at circuit box when not in use
-Computer and TV on same surge protector that gets unplugged whenever I'm not using them
-LCD computer monitor instead of CRT
-I don't use my AC, either in the car or apartment, unless its around 90 degrees with high humidity.
-I don't use the central heater, ever.
-I shop at thrift stores for clothes
-Almost all of my furniture and house stuff (lamps, tables, chairs) have been second hand from family, bought from vintage stores, or salvaged from being thrown away.
-When shopping I usually bring my own canvas bags
-If I don't bring my own bag, I get paper and then use them for trash
-I recycle paper, plastic, tin, aluminum, and glass.
-I drive a Camry...with fairly good mileage.
-I eat as little meat as I can manage, and even less fast food.
-I have stopped buying individual soft drinks, and make Iced tea instead.
-When only getting one or two items at a store, I request no bags.
-I unplug transformers, things like cellphone chargers, from the wall when not in use.
Edit: LaDeeDa, at medium to high speeds in your car, having the windows open actually creates enough drag to lower your cars fuel efficiency to the point that it would be lowered to if you had the AC running. Best bet is to keep the windows closed if you're going over 35Mph and use the cars fan instead. On really hot days, go ahead and use the AC if you must. You'll get more satisfaction out of the same fuel efficiency reduction.

Almost all my lights in the house are Eco friendly lights, all my appliances have been updated to low energy ones. My airconditioner is low energy. I turn off all my lights. I grow a lot of my own vegetables. I use all biodegradable products for cleaning. I cut back on a lot of my airosol cans. I have all organic sheets, towels, pillows, etc...I use my dishwasher late at night when it costs less to use. I ride my bike a lot and try to not use my car whenever possible.

I open my windows in the car instead of turning on the air conditioner, I try to avoid using an air conditioner as much as possible. I ride my bike a lot of places instead of driving and i don't run the water a lot

It's not easy being green. But at least I reduce, reuse and recycle! Can't afford a hybrid yet.

I'm so frickin' green that it's not even funny!
I do green stuff in the potty. My eyes are greenish. I eat lots of greens (salad, spinich, kiwis, mustard greens, cucumbers). I have a green blankie from when I was a baby. I've even got gangreene in my butthole (teehee hee! I'm only kidding! I had you going there for a minute though didn't I?). How's that for being green?

My teeth are green. I save the environment by not brushing and spitting tooth paste into the sink.
