I'm pretty sure ethnic means the resturant has food which is primarlly composed of ingredients geared to on ethnic group . for example : an chineese resturant has chineese food , or a mexican resturant would be expected to have enchiladas, burritos, etc. but many resturants also may have a small menu of american quizine as well as ethnic food. mcdonalds is not an ethnic restuant is serves only american quzine or food. a McDonalds in a foregin country may be looked at as ethnic? I don't know, perhaps someone who has lived in a foreign country can answer the question is mcdonalds considered ethinic in a foreign country.

No. It is classified as fast food; not favoring one kind of group's food over another. In fact, it is rather mixed, depending upon where you go. In some places you will see a Chinese salad, and in others it has a Mexican flavor or two on its menu.

But there is no homogeneous type of ethnic food. Ethnic does not mean just exotic, either. Any type of race or people is a member of ethnicity.

In the US, no but in India -- it's an American restaurant & therefore viewed as ethnic to the local pop. It's all relative. Mc D's in India is funny: it's a proper sit down place complete with silverware, tablecloths & proper cloth napkins. You wait to be seated and there are waiters (at least the MG Rd location in B'lore). They also do not serve any beef!

Only if your ethnicity is obese. Ethnic restaurants serve foods based on a specific cuisine: Indian, Chinese, Cuban, Mexican, Creole, Cajun, Thai, etc. McDonalds serves burgers and fries -- typical American fast food.

It really depends where you are. It's certainly ethnic "American" when it's in China or India or many other foreign countries because it's a very different dining experience for them. Unfortunately it is most likely making them fat because McDonalds is addictive.
