Yes, as long as you can see a LED light on the appliance it is using electricity, thus energy.
My mom unplugged all the appliances we did not use, like the TV before going to bed, and all other appliances similary. Then plug them back when necessary and over a 1 month period, we saved 200-300 HK$...so thats about 30-50US$ I Think. Now, I would have to check the electricity rates here and in the US.. Sorry I couldnt be more useful.

Yes, appliances still use electricity while switched off. This energy is used for extra features such as timers, clocks, memory, etc. The amount of energy being used is (or should be) really small so I wouldn't worry about unplugging them.

Yes, because energy is still flowing to ensure that when you turn on the appliance, it starts without any delay so...unplug and save money, and do something good for the environment!!

It only uses electricity if it has a clock or an LED light of some kind. My dad calls these appliances "vampires".

yeah - they often still use electricity, so that translates to more money spent on electricity bills. a climate change group is currently getting people to pledge to turn off and unplug their mobile phone chargers because of the amount of energy they waste every year. basically, if you're not using if, unplug it
