I like Indian. It depends where you live. If you are in the UK, both are very good, but Indian is better. I don't like American Chinese food, because it is very hard to find a good Chinese restaurant. Most of the Chinese food in America is greasy, and not authentic. If you want good Chinese food, try asking a Chinese friend. As for Indian, try some other things on the menu. I am Indian. Whenever I mention Indian food, people think of samosas, tandoori chicken, and mango lassis. I eat this food appx. 3 times a year. If you want the real Indian food, try ordering Mutar Paneer, peas and cheese and a thin sauce. Curry, w/ or w/o chicken is good. Most curries are not spicy, contrary to peoples beliefs. As for southern Indian food, you must try dosas with samber. Dosas are thin crepes and samber is a normally spicy stew with zucchinis and lentils, among other things. Upma is also a very good choice. It is made from an Indian grain, and is sometimes served plain, or with vegetables in it. South Indian food is very good, and is harder find then Northern Indian food. But my fave. food, is channa with pooris, chickpeas with fried bread, and rajma, kidney beans in a thin sauce called thari. Hoped this helped!

Thanks Lots_of_Laughs who has rasied one very good point.
It depends on where you are.
In India and parts of UK, you would probably find better Indian food than Chinese.
In China, Hong Kong and parts of Malaysia, you would find better chinese food than Indian.
In singapore, Kulua Lumpur and Bangkok, probably you would find good ones of both cuisines.
I am a lover of both Chinese and Indian food. But in places where I couldn't find good ones of both, I would choose just the good ones whatever cuisine it would be.
In japan, I don't see any reason to eat fish and chips. Sushi, ramen are better choices.
In China, there are so many regional cuisines that would keep one mouth busy. Why bother to find an indian resturant?
Food , I think personally, is more borne with people and the place.

I'll prefer Chinese food, because of the huge varieties and different cooking methods to suit different tastes. Indian dishes are a bit too simple for me, and personally I'm not a 'curry-person' who can tolerate with curry dishes on my plate everyday.

For some reason, the Indian food in the US seems so expensive while the quality is average.
I would pick Chinese most of the time partly because of price and the variety - Catonese, Schzwan (sp?), Hunan, Taiwanese... etc.
If I do find a good Indian place, I'd add that to my list too.

I love any spice foods. Being my father from a placed in Mexico called Oaxaca and they eat any thing wit a face like most Chinese do I have found that I like what I call nu-voe world coo-kin I went to a restaurant in Minneapolis and they have the idea of putting Chinese Mexican cooking together. They call theirs Chino-Latino. I like taking chicken livers and cutting onions, celery and red bell-peppers and adding curry pataks curry. Frying it all in olive oil, then I wrap them in corn tortillas. Man are these good. So what would you call Mexican- Indian food?

Indian is much more interesting and savory. I like Chinese but not as much as Indian. Chinese gets boring for me.
