Some people put bumperstickers on their cars, engage their friends, family and collegues into animated discussions, volunteer for the environment, or otherwise promote their "green" intentions. Others prefer to work behind the scenes, even to the point of being embarrassed by being labeled an environmentalist.

Which are you? Or are you somewhere in between?

I just rebuilt my second scooter. It is a two cycle and as one person answered one of my questions was that it pollutes more then others. Yes it does but not as much as my car and has been tuned up to produce as little as possible. I am just getting into the green area of my life. I cant afford to go all out at this time. I am doing my part where I can. I am now buying any cloths that I feel I need second hand, recycling, turning off non essential items such as lights, using energy efficient lighting, working on buying energy star appliances ( cant afford at this time). I don't go around starting conversations up on staying green, however if someone asks me about the little 50cc scooter that puts me to work, or the bicycle that I ride here and there I simple tell them how much money I am saving and how much the earth is benefiting. They are generally very interested and ask me more. I point them to the internet and remind them to turn off their computer when they aren’t using it. I have even replaced my desktop with a more energy afficant lap top.

I was never green and didn't care until I noticed that the thing I was doing to save money was also helping Mother Nature. Now I would like to go even greener. I will probably never live off the grid but I can do allot to help. Good luck and let them insinuate the subject.

P.S. Those bumper stickers use recorces

I am an architect of energy efficient houses and also developer of green communities. This has always been on my mind that there must be a reason for each of us being in this world, living cycle of our lives and more....I have reached my very own reason to be in this world.

Even if you win a lotto, even if you are given tones of that green $....still:
you won't throw a 3/4 used pencil away,
you won't dump plastic and cans into trash,
you won't only use one side of the paper to write,
you won't leave the food uncovered in the fridge,
you wont leave metal wares in the fridge (metal takes more energy from the fridge to reach the desired cool temp.),

you will not just do things that seem to be so regular which in fact are out of positive environmental habits...

and that happens when you think green.

Be forever green

I think it's vital that your actions are consistant with your values (if not, they're not really your values). Do the "green" thing because it is the most rational way to behave. It has the further benefit of setting a good example and it makes others potential greenies more comfortable behaving in a new and improved way. Be careful not to make too big a deal about it though; those who disagree are always looking for opportunities to refute your views. I've had many people assume that my views must mean I judge them foolish and/or bad then defend themselves by attacking me. It can be delicate, but modesty helps.

even if you were totaly green ,why wear it on you sleeve to brag?? That your better than the 'non' greens? Most EVERYONE has heard of and knows how to recycle in one way or the other. If they want to they will.If they dont care they wont.Do what you need to do with taking bags back to the store, buy hybrid cars, but DONT buy an organic tee shirt and turn it inside out ,wear it like that and pull up your hair so everyone can see by the label your green.Do it because you care about the environment, not for petty attention to yourself.

I used to have some bumper stickers, but my wife doesn't like them. I bike to work, drive a Prius, and always bring reuseable bags to the grocery store, which is pretty visible. I'm not terribly vocal about it, but I do engage people in environmental discussions from time to time.

Overall I'm somewhere in between, closer to the 'on my sleeve' end. Basically I'm not preachy, but I try to lead by example.

oh, i bought a cute shirt that said, green is the new black. and i am a faithful environmentalist most of the time. The 5 % of the time that i'm not is when i'm just too lazy to stand up for our planet. =(

but most of the time, i pick up trash that people threw out and try to join organizations;/

bumper stickers are humorous and thoughtful, but wasteful.

I discuss it more frequently than other subjects when able to have an adult conversation (toddlers). I'm usually in the middle of changing some part of my life for the better of the environment and end up telling people when they ask: What's up?

I am a hardcore recycler but pretty quiet about it. I'll pull recycleables out of other people's trash cans at a party, but I'm not obsessive about it. I try not to make the host feel stupid for not putting out a recycle bin.

I go nuts, however, when my trash guy takes my recycling and throws it away because the recycle guy missed me or is out sick. I report them every time.

I recommend my cleaning products to a lot of people because they work great and are biodegradable. Other than that if people ask I tell but I don't go around preaching about my greenness..
