A pulse of 68 per minute is very healthy for a female of twenty-one. You can get palpitations from low blood pressure and/or anaemia, where you are aware of how fast your heart is beating, and this can be accompanied by fainting and dizziness. But palpitations can also be brought on by anxiety, which is what you seem to have over your health.
The best way to put your mind at ease would be to arrange a visit to the doctor to check your blood pressure. Some chemists even offer this service.

Normal Blood pressure is a systolic (upper number) of 110 to 130. A diastolic (lower number) of 60 to 88. These are the normal ranges. Normal pulse rate is 60 to 100. Anything over 100 is considered abnormal.

Denise, Contrary to what some have told you, a pulse rate of 68 bpm may not be normal for you. 68 is a great number if you are very athletic and within a normal weight range for your height. If this is the case, good for you:) If you are over weight and/or sedentary........maybe not so great:( As for the palpitations, if they occur only occasionally there's probably no reason for concern. Stress may be the cause or lack of sleep. Also caffeine may be a culprit. However, I would like to know what your bp has been. Hope this info helps. Best of luck:)

Denise - palpitations are really common in young people like yourself and the majority of time are nothing to worry about.
You should go and talk to your GP who if necessary, could consider other investigations. Simple things to think about are: are the palpitations precipitated by anything (food, caffeine, exercise, stress), have you any other medical problems or are you taking medications (including over the counter).
Your GP will be able to take a full history, examine you and consider simple blood tests (including thyroid function and blood count to make sure you are not anaemic). If he/she thinks it is necessary then most hospitals have a fast-track palpitations service which usually involves going in for an ECG and wearing an "event monitor" which is a small ECG recorder that you wear for 2-5 days.
I hope this helps but the bottom line is not to worry because in the vast majority of cases palpitations in someone of your age are benign and nothing serious.

Your pulse rate is not the same as your blood pressure, dear.
68 beats per minute is within the range of 'normal' for someoe of your age.
Blood pressure is a measurement giving two figures ... one on top of the other. The top figure refers to your systolic blood pressure, which is the force that pushes the blood around your body. The bottom figure measures the diastolic blood pressure. This is the pressure that your blood is at between heart beats.
Below, I've given a link for you to gain a better understanding of blood pressure, what it is, what is high blood pressure, etc. Obviously, this site refers only to high blood pressure (hypertension), but if you do a search on Google or Yahoo, you'll find lots of similar sites for low blood pressure (hypotension).

a pulse of 68bpm is good - are you quite fit? ie do you exercise a lot? that will keep ur pulse down. a normal bp for someone your age would be 100-120/60-75 mmhg
you never actually told us your bp. Also if you are prone to palpitations it may be worth cutting back on caffeine as that can cause your heart to race.

68bpm is not pressure.
ideally: 120/80
variable factors:
time of day, what you've eaten/drank, standing, sitting, smoking, booze, if youve just done excercise, type of equipment used to measure (manual/electric)
manual shygs are more accurate in my opinion, im sure your doc would agree.
mine varys; between 110/60 to 145/95 depending on the above.
should increase slightly as you get older by general rule of thumb.
