I think that it is great that you are concerned about animal's rights. More people should start thinking like YOU! If you have been a non-vegetarian for a long time now you will have to get used to not eating meat when you see it even if it looks really good and refusing to eat meat when people try to pressure you into doing it. Some good things to eat to replace meat would be the fake meat from smart deli or morning star farm. you also have to eat alot of protein. Some yummy things that you could look up in acook book would be baked ziti, roasted potatoe, and to serve your sweet tooth (if you have one) oatmeal raisin cokkies! YUM! (you can thank me later!)

i am a vegetarian but i don't have a big problem with killing animals. i have a huge problem with the conditions in which the animals are kept before they go to slaughter and the way in which they are killed. farmers will keep animals alive that should be euthanized because if they make it to the slaughter house alive, then the farmer turns a profit. to give you an idea of what this does to the quality of life of the animals- 100,000 pigs die on the trucks to the slaughter house every year. they die slowly, and painfully and no animal should be treated in that way. you should consider cutting down on your eggs and milk or buying organic because the conditions in which they keep chickens and milk cows is just as appalling as the animals primarily used for meat. and as to the answer towards the top of the page- god didn't create cows for our consumption and use. man manipulated the gene pool to create the modern day cow which we exploit and torture for our own personal use.

recipes- you don't have to change your eating habits at all, really. if you like the taste and texture of meat, you can substitute fake meat into your favorite dishes. my favorite food to eat are grilled veggies (peppers, onions, mushrooms), or pasta, or squash soup. ethnic cuisine has a lot of veggie options too (indian, chinese, thai etc). i think it is fun to try new and exotic food and there are a LOT of vegetarian dishes available, but meat eaters hardly try them.

Becoming vegetarian is a personal decision and completely up to you. Some people find the transition easy, while other people find it a bit trying in the beginning. I was a pretty picky eater when I started, and vegetarianism actually made me less picky. My tastes for certain foods changed. I love vegetables now, while before I would barely let vegetables past my lips.

It takes awhile to build up recipes, during this time you may find being vegetarian more difficult. When you prepare meals, remember that many recipes can be vegetarian by substituting the meat for something else. For example-Sloppy Joes, replace meat with soy crumbles/rice/lentils. It tastes basically the same since its not the meat that gives flavr by the seasoning.

You really should just try. I mean, you'll never know how it is if you never tried it. When i became a vegetarian(for ethical reasons), i was really surprised to discover(in a few weeks) that I started feeling better, my health improved, and when I met any animals, cows, pigs(sometimes i go to a village, where people raise them) i didn't feel guilty anymore...Hope you make the right decision!

That is your decision entirely. But it sounds as if you have one of the right reaons to stop eating meat.

I like the www.vegweb.com site. It has tons and tons of recipes!

www.cok.net has information on animal issues, and www.vrg.org has information on nutritional issues. Believe me, you won't be lacking for protein.

There are also tons of vegan shopping sites out there with food, clothes, shoes, etc.

Well... you could first try to cut meat gradually. Meat, fish, eggs and milk contains a lot of important elements you need : proteins, fat (yes, some is good !), amino acids, creatine, etc.

Cutting meat progressively will let you discover new meals (imagine.... no meat.... what are you gonna eat ???).

i think you should go vegetarian because #1 you help the animals #2 you will be healthier and feel better #3 you help the enviroment
meat, milk, and eggs are very unhealthy for your heart. they are high in cholesterol, saturated fat, calories, and concentrated fat. they contribute to heart disease, diabetes, certain types of cancer, obesity, and other debilitating diseases.

Yeah go for it. If you feel guilt it will make you feel better. Or at least cut down on your meat intake. Being a vergitarian is nooooo big deal.
