My A1c is 6.7.I have been doing the atkins diet hard core. I have lost 30 pounds since Jan. I am still at 225 lbs (5-7"). I have been taken metafomin or glusafage about 80% of the time that I am supposed to.When I test after two hours my score is 133 to 150.

In the absence of appropriate sugars, your body will produce sugars.
The atkins diet is HARD on your body. I lost 45 lbs on it, but the damage done is now irreversible. As a diabetic, you need to be concerned about the effects on your liver, kidneys and heart.
If you are eating 0 carbs, then you are not getting any whole grains or vegetables, either.
I strongly suggest that you work with a diabetic counselor/nutritionist to find an appropriate diet before you are forced onto insulin!
PS: I gained back all of the weight plus some when I started adding carbs back in.

#1 you really need to get the meds in on schedule. Go get the Atkins Diabetes Revolution book. It will help you more than the other Atkins diet books will at this point.
#2 how much exercise are you getting in?? get a pedometer to go with the ADR book. the more steps you put on it the better your control will be.
#3 and most important: talk to your doctor. there are 7 classes of meds for diabetes. Metformin is just one of them and it doesn't do anything for making the bod accept the insulin or sugars into the muscles. It only works on the liver to keep it from dumping more sugar on the system. Then after adding some other med or meds to your regimen you can consider the insulins!!
I know you want tight control. I know you want to loose weight. 6.7 is within the ADA range of what is acceptable.
Slow weight loss is much better than rapid!! stays off better. so be a little patient with that part of this thing. You need to concentrate on the very tight control of your BGs then you can work harder at weight loss.

You will get lots of answers on here and I am sure everyone means will. So do I. Diabetes is too serious a condition to leave to people on Yahoo Answers! See your doctor and have him get you checked out by people who know about diabetes. It is the only way to be sure and it is serious. Did not see any problems as you described the levels but I am not your doctor. Have a good life.

That's way too high. With your being a diabetic, which is what I'll assume. Your glucose levels should be below 110. Talk to your Dr. about putting you on insulin, because Dear, the glucophage is not working very well.

If I recall correctly, you need to go high carb (150-200 g daily) for 48 hours before a fasting BG test. Otherwise the results will be off.

Your A1c is a little high. Think you should consult your Doctor. Not from people on "Answers."

Unfortunately, it may be time for you to consider using insulin to keep your blood sugar under better control. If the metformin isn't doing it, then insulin is really your best hope for getting your hunger and your weight under control. Talk to your doctor about this.
