I've browsed online, and failed to find out the right tips to caring for bamboo plants.

I want to take care of my bamboo plant, buying distilled water is costly, however looking at saving $$, can I use boiled water that is purified and later chilled, to change the water every what, 2 wks or a month?

Kind replies, my friend....THANKS!

WOW! Stagggering at wole lotta answers----Uuumm try answering this one, what if I boiled the water twice?

An example, I boiled it once, and let it cool off to a room tempreture, then boil it again, then let it cool to room temp.

Wow. Hard to say. Where I am, the water is so nasty, there are stains in my sink and tub (from the water, of course). If you pour it into a glass, you can actually see a brown, fuzzy residue. We have a distiller hooked up to the kitchen sink b/c we refuse to drink the tap water. However, my bf lives in a different city and his tap water is just fine.
I would check with the local nursery and see if boiled tap water is apprpriate. My mom read an article where some girl gave her plant boiled water from a stove vs. water boiled from a microwave. The plant getting water from the microwave died-the other was fine. Not a great test since so many things could be different in each case but there seems to be a lot of suspicion about microwaved water.

Boiling water kills the bacteria or bugs in the water. Only distilling water does away with any particulate ( dirt, salt, etc..) Unless you use a good filter. Distilling also kills the bugs.
Unlike what some say, your water might be purified, but it picks up trash as it's sent in its pristine condition from the plant to your tap, through god knows how old pipes that accumulate plaque on the inside. By the time it gets to you, it isn't as clean as it was when it was first purified.

It is NOT the same thing. Plants can be harmed from deposits in water. I was told to only use distilled in my humidifier and at first I used our "filtered" water out of the tap. It worked okay but it would have so much build up and deposits inside of the humidifier. I tried the distilled just to see if there was a difference. The difference was amazing. There is never any build up with the distilled water. It is extremely different. It might be okay for a while but in the long run I think the distilled is much better for plants and anything else that deposits from water can harm. Hope this helps.

Depends. Boiling will remove living things like bacteria and microbes, which your plant won't care about. Boiling will remove volatile (quickly evaporating) stuff like chlorine. It won't remove minerals like calcium, iron or sulfur.

Check with your water company (their website) for tips on using their water for plants... or ask them what's in it... or send a sample out to be tested. It's not that expensive, done all the time by homeowners with wells who want to know how to design their water softeners.

Purified water refers to its chemical content. Boiling water only kills the bacteria - sterilizes it, but does not remove any chemicals.

I never heard of any bamboo that needed purified water.. Why can't you use regular tap water?

Run the water through the Brita or other filter first, then boil.

Yes, boiled water purifies it. Although you cannot keep it for too long, and in the refrigerator. Good Luck!
