Hey... I'm 67... if you invite me, I'll even do the cooking.

WHAT FUN... let's see... make some crepes with some kind of edible vine and call them "creeping crapes"....

Make the punch and put it into individual bottles with a label saying "Viagra" that you can print with your computer.

Get a pair of clacking teeth from spencers and put them in a pitcher of lemonade.

Use a bed pan and a hotwater bottle for the center piece on the table.

I wish I had more time to think about this... it's so much fun... you father is lucky to have you.

Naturally you want your food and drinks to match your theme. Example, instead of a bowl of chips, you could put the chips in a football helmet ( a clean one of course). You could make football shape cookies, decorate them accordingly. Set the table or bar like a football field, complete with astro turf, or something like it. Get creative. Go to the dollar store, you might find something there you can use, or at least get some ideas. Try a costume store, buy a cheap jersey, dress the part. Put some of that black stuff under your eyes, just have fun with it. Buy some sports trivia cards or a fun game to play during half time. BBQ is always great, messy though, you may not want that. Hot dogs, peanuts, pretzels, game food you would eat if you were at the game. Just think like a man. Ask yourself what a man would like. You girls will most likely end up entertaining each other in the kitchen anyway. If you are serving alcohol, make sure no one that has to drive has too much. Have some kind of contest, offer small prize to the winner. The possibilities are endless. This could be the start of a new tradition for your family and friends. Release your inner Martha Stewart. Good luck. Oh yeah, take pictures or video if you can. Make sure to get all your hard work on record. This will help you not repeat in the years to come too.

You sound as though you believe that 50 is an old age? Anything but. At age 50 people are more sophiscated than at 25 or 30 and appreciate the finer horsedeuvers served at at party. You may wish to do a light buffet with three different main courses i.e. a special, pieced chicken dish, a seafood gumbo served with rice and a beef dish such as beef curry. Several vegitable sides, one or two carb dishes such as scalloped potatoes, garllic mashed potatoes, etc. Be sure to use warming dishes with candles to keep things appetising. For snacks, French bread sliced with a pate' or a homemade spread such as crab buter.

Cookies - prune danish kiffles, of course. Snacks and foods should include pretzel bites, corn "off the cob", mini weiners in sauce, crackers with cheeze wiz and an over the hill themed cake. Drinks should include a "Geratol" punch.

There are many things you can do for you dad's 50th...
instead of making it strictly an over the hill theme (since most of it has to do with tomb stones and death in general)...mix it up a little, make it fun, unique...if he was born in 1957, look up stuff from that year and use it in your party theme...the colors were wonderful; old vintage cars, Elvis,jukebox...make everyone dress up for the occasion...play music from that era (upload music from limewire.com)..they have great oldies...mix it up with some of the catchy "Over The Hill" phrases you like... this link takes u to my favorite party supply and ideas site of all time; http://www.shindigz.com/catalog.cfm?cat=14819&nav=Theme%20Parties%2FFifties%20Party

remember if some of the items seem expensive, create some of your own props, their ideas are wonderful....

have fun and above all make it as unique as your dad is; serve his favorite foods, drinks and snacks..right down to his favorite dessert, after all it is his night..

I had a 50 birthday party for my husband, I made bar-b-que, ribs, beef, baked beans, potato salad, etc. I had a big cake made at a local bakery. Used poster board to make a card that everyone in attendance signed. Bought a mini fire extinguisher for the candles ( see novelty items in stores ). Mostly just relaxed and had fun with his friends.

I've got to say that I had no idea that people think 50 is old. Get a clue, you usually still have all your teeth. Make him a cookie pie or an ice cream pie. Go to toll house . com or look at foodtv.com. Oh yeah we still have sex too!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

You can make snacks that are soft... since he's getting old and losing his teeth... lol
Jello cups (or jello shots)
Pudding - to be extra fancy a Trifle with lady fingers.
Apple sauce
Stewed prunes to keep him regular.
