We have stolen minerals from the center of the Earth; raped the land with strip mining; sucked oil and other resources from the planet; and polluted our air and water all so we can live in an "industrialized" world.
For those who say, "Hey, if I don't use it, the next guy will" - I say, "Such hubris, arrogance and selfishness will cause your grandchildren and great-grandchildren to live in a world deprived of what we have today. And when that beautiful little grand daughter climbs up on your lap and asks, 'Why didn't you do something to save us from the ill effects of global warming, Grandpa?' - how will you answer her?"
We have come to believe that we are "superior" to all the plants and animals on this Earth. True, God gave us 'dominion' over the Earth; that didn't mean he gave us the right to rape His creation of all its resources. Like early ancestors, He expected us to regard the Earth and its resources as sacred. Instead, we squandered everything, not even thinking about how our avarice and gluttony destroyed the delicate ecological balance between all men, plants and animals - so necessary for our survival.
We've stolen oil, minerals, natural gas, clean water, pure air, and ancient sunlight all to satisfy our own material nature. Our descendants will pay for our greed - and will damn us for our selfishness. -RKO- 08/27/07
