Hi,
I'm planning my 21st birthday which is going to be an Old Hollywood theme affair. I am a little confused about the dress code. I want it to be formal and maybe a little vintage, however I really want to stand out. I will be wearing a red dress. Should I ask my guests to come in strictly black and white? and if so, how do I word that on the invitation?

Tell them it's an Black and White Hollywood Affair.
P. Diddy (and Oprah I believe has too) has had a White Party where all of their guests wore all white, so it's not unheard of.

Tell them to wear their best B & W in Old Hollywood style for a stellar evening.

We had movie premiere party for my son's 13th.. red carpet entrance with strobe light set up to give feeling of paparazzi taking pics.. can have them stop and "pose" for take home camera shot favor. My son was to come in all in white (like P.Diddy actually with white trench over shoulders and sunglasses (couldn't find a white trench in Dec though!!)

Cake was a walk of fame design like he had done his hand print in the cement. All food was named after actors or movie titles ie; Charlies Angel Wings, Twister sandwich wraps, Lord of the Rings Dogs.

We had a blast planning it all and guests thoroughly enjoyed the night

It's simple enough. Tell them it is a black and white dress up party. If you want some fabulous party decorations, look what is offered at this site. Some would only be usable in a rental hall size room, but they might inspire you. Some are usable for house parties. You should also look at Party City to see the Hollywood party decorations they offer.

When you get there, look for their theme kit for Hollywood.

I think that dress is absolutely amazing and it would look stunning for the old Hollywood glamour theme. It's perfect as it has that old Hollywood style yet modern elegance at the same time. I love it! Best of luck :)
