Haven't tried this recipe but it looks really good.
Deep Fried Shredded Beef
Deep Fried Shredded Beef Ingredients:
3/4 lb Beef sirloin or flank steak
MARINADE:
2 tbs Dry sherry
2 tbs Soy sauce
1 tsp Sugar
1 tsp Cornstarch
1 small Carrot
1 Green bell pepper
2 Ribs celery
1 small Onion
SAUCE:
2 tbs Rice vinegar
1 tbs Soy sauce
2 tsp Sesame oil
1 tsp Sugar
1/2 tsp Chili oil
1/2 tsp Cornstarch
Deep Fried Shredded Beef Method:
Preparation:
Trim and discard fat from beef. Cut beef across the grain into 1 1/2 inch matchstick pieces. Combine marinade ingredients in a medium size bowl. Add beef; stir to coat. Set aside for 30 minutes. Cut carrot, bell pepper, and celery into 1 1/2 inch matchstick pieces. Thinly slice onion. Set vegetables aside separately. Combine sauce ingredients in a small bowl and set aside.
Cooking:
In a deep fryer add oil to a depth of 1 1/2 to 2 inches. Place over high heat until oil reaches about 375 degrees F. Add beef, half at a time, and deep fry for 1 minute until browned, turning occasionally. Lift out and drain on paper towels, set aside. Cook remaining beef. Reheat oil to high heat . Add carrot and onion; cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute. Add bell pepper and celery, fry for 1 more minute. Stir in sauce and beef. Cook until well mixed.
Spicy Sweet & Sour Sauce
1green onion
1tablespoon cornstarch
2tablespoons rice vinegar
3/4cup water
1/4cup packed brown sugar
1/2teaspoon red pepper flakes
2 tablespoons finely grated turnip(can substitute carrot)
Preparation: 1.Finely chop white part of green onion; cut green portion into thin, 1-inch strips. Reserve green strips for garnish.
2.Combine cornstarch and vinegar in small bowl; mix well. Set aside.
3.Combine water, brown sugar, pepper and chopped green onion in small saucepan; bring to a boil. Stir in cornstarch mixture. Return to a boil; cook 1 minute or until sauce is clear and thickened. Cool. Sprinkle with turnip and reserved green onion strips just before serving
Edit: Finding a decent spicy sweet and sour sauce recipe has been tough, I like the sauce that comes with shredded beef recipe but it's not very spicy, so I found this one =)
