Remember going Green means giving up a lot of luxuries.
Recycling isn't per say... going green!
Going green in truth means buying less and consuming less!
Remember buying five pairs of shoes over the course of the year... does more harm to the environment than missing your recylcing bin five times in a year!
Or... going to the mall to buy the latest BACK to school fashions.... things we don't use is what harms the environment. Buying things that don't last very long... ie/ stuff from the dollar store... or even things like toaster ovens that break down after four or five years!
Eating Fast food, staying in GREEN hotel suites is also NOT GREEN! In Both cases, you are still consuming convience.
And it is convience that spoils our environment.
Fast Food promotes unnecessary packaging and increases beef consumption and corporate profits.
Hotels that say they are green... are still wasting a lot of energy and produce a lot of waste! Just not as much waste (which is better, but not green)
To go green.. .we need to simplify our lives. Collect and buy less useless junk... clothing fashion, conviences.
By Buying more things increases demand and corporate profits. If we all collectively reduce our demand for these items and services there will be a message to the corporate world that we seriously don't need them! Profits will not disappear but it will be harder to obtain these profits.
Hence, corporations will in turn cater to the needs of the people and thus help our planet.
If we don't change... corporations won't change.
Just think hard on the things that are in your room... that you don't use... or have in duplicate! Think about the energy it took to transport and produce those items.
From there, you probably could evaluate that the bulk of pollution is from YOU and ME. We demand these items.
These are luxuries.... wants... not NEEDS.
(don't throw it away! Just reduce your consumption from now on... and you'll do all of us a favor)
good luck

Repetition usually just ends up being nagging--and most people simply don't respond well to that.
If you want to get others (family or anyone) to conserve--do your homework and get the facts. Then show them how its in THEIR interest to conserve.
Here's an example: compact flourescent bulbs. These save enrgy and are good for the environment. BUT--if you get the facts, you can show that the higher cost of the bulbs will be offset by the fact that they last a lot longer-so in the long run they don't cost more.
Next, get the family utility bills and work up a reasonable estimate of how much energy--and money--your family spends on lighting each month. Then you can show them how much money they can save (for most familys this is around $100/year).
The same hold s for anything else--nagging and repeating things just annoys people. Give them solid facts that give them a reason to be interested, and they will usually respond positively. Not always- (they may just not be interested)-but this generally works.

Some adults do not conserve because if they do sometimes they feel poor, that's what some adults have said. Others feel that if they are able to pay for convenience, they should get to use it. Some children just want to annoy their parents or go against what they say about conservation.

They aren't paying the energy bills. Make them pay out of their own pocket over a monthly budget for energy.

Your family is doing what they feel is right and you are doing what you feel is right. If they won't recycle, recycle for them.

They might not know the importance or the benefits of it..... or they are just too lazy. I would sit down with them and explain the importance and how much it means to you.... they might change their mind if you stress it over and over.

They just don't care. Some people are like that. As long as you do it, you are helping out. Maybe after awhile your influence will rub off on them.
