yes . you are right. also if you notice, on the rear end there is an outlet for the condensed moisture to exit in the form of water drops. You can attach a pipe to this outlet and let the water pour into the potted plants near by.
In this way you are providing water to the plant without exhausting water supplies. this could be you tiny but important contribution to lower electricity bills, conserve water and promote greenery. a simple thought is just needed and this world could be a better and greener place to live in.

Yes shading your AC will help it a bit.. by reducing the temperature that it operates at.. Sunlight will cause it to heat up so the AC has to work harder to give off heat to the surrounding atmosphere..
However, the problem with trees or bushes around an AC condenser unit is that leaves will clog the cooling fins and make it less efficient. Which requires constant maintenance, etc.
So while placing an AC condenser in the shade is preferable. Bushes and trees may not be the best way to get it!

Yes. Shading the outdoor part of the air conditioner will make it cool more easily while using less electricity. In fact, shading the whole house will help too. If there are big trees all around the house that shade it, it will be cooler. Actually, spraying the outside part of the air conditioner it with water will help a lot too. I have often though of setting up a misting spray to constantly keep the outdoor unit wet, but I worry about hard water scale building up on it.

It would be more effective to plant a series of trees to shade the roof of the house and the air conditioner. Most often is to plant trrees that loose thier leaves in the winter and are fully foliated by mid spring. Also planting trees that re facing east and west will give maximum shade during the summer and warmth during the winter. Cutting heating and cooling cost by a small amount.

Of course a tree will make a big help in lowering your bills since trees will produce air that will make our environment cooler hence like a refrigerator, an airconditioner will not use more energy than it does when we don't have trees at our environment.
In addition to this, from my readings, one of the function of an air conditioner is to cool the air since there are ones which already cooling the air which are the trees then the air condition will decrease its work there by lowering its consumption of electrical energy then lowering the ac bills

It probably is true. A better way to reduce your energy bills is to plant shade trees (Maple, Oak, Elm) around your house.
A shaded house is 9 degrees cooler in the summer and 9 degrees warmer in the winter. Plus they make your property look nice.

yes. you provided the answer when you said the sun doesn't hit it. The ac unit or coils/fan wants to exhaust heat - it doesn't want heat from the sun. The sun shining on it adds heat to it and makes it work harder to exhaust heat. So it's better to keep the sun off it.

Yup. Its true. Green plant help to reduce carbon dioxide in your room and increase carbon dioxide. Close all ur windows and door to prevent the cool air from going out of a room. This is one of the way too to save energy and save money. But my advise is prevent using air-cond when it is not too hot. Air-cond gives out CFC that harm our enviroment.

That's true. That's also why most a/c units are on the east side of buildings. It's shaded in the afternoon when the sun is the hottest.

More specifically, you should plant the tree so that it helps shade the house. It doesn't really matter how close it is to the air conditioner .. that's coincidental.
