My two year old was just diagnosed with type 1 in June. We are a low income family and I'm pretty sure that I could get a grant or funding of some sort to take classes but I'm not sure where to start.

If you mean a "diabetes doctor" (Endocrinologist):

-An MD degree (8-10 years including residency), plus usually 2 years of additional training.

Most "diabetes educators" are nurses (RN's), pharmacists, and dietitians. Very rarely, people with health related Masters degrees and PhD's can become diabetes educators. *Generally*, only Registered Nurses (not Practical Nurses) can become diabetes educators.

Post degree, it can take up to 2 years to become a Certified Diabetes Educator. You have to take education programs, write exams, and collect on the job clinical practice hours.

In your case, if time and money is a factor:

Apply for an RN nursing program at your local college. It is doable for you to become an educator, but it is not easy nor quick. Which is a good thing, since people's lives are in your hands!

Here is a good link that should have some info for you. It is Canadian, but the info should be similar to the US.

Please check out the www.childrenwithdiabetes.com link. It should have much of the information on Type 1 diabetes that you need.

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.

Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

The 'specialty' of diabetes is a sub-specialty of endocrinology. If you wish to become an endocrinologist you must obtain a college degree, a medical degree, internal medicine residency, and an endocrinology fellowship. This would imply approximately 13 years of study. You might prefer to become a diabetic nurse educator. A 2 or 4 year nursing degree would be required plus an additional 1 to 2 years of study in diabetes. If I may be of further assistance please let me know. I wish you the very best of health and happiness and in all things may God bless. JR

To become a Certified Diabetes Educator, you must become a Registered Nurse or Dietician first, then work in the field of diabetes for many hours, then take an exam.

So..
This book about diabetes is very interesting http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=549

. They show an interesting videos as well on the home page. I don't think that you can reverse diabetes as they asserts but I have to admit that I found the method very inspiring with lots of good tips (especially nutricional tips). It also gave me a different perspective on my disease.
