I assume you are chewing the gum rather than actually eating the gum which would present a whole other list of problems.

Some reasons not to chew gum in class:
1) generally not considered good manners / disrespectful
2) can be distracting to others (snapping, popping, etc.)
3) interferes with your ability to articulate properly
4) may interfere with your own concentration
5) has a tendency to be disposed of inappropriately (i.e. under desks, chairs, etc.)
6) don't get me started on the dental ramifications
7) "Do you have enough for everyone Miss Jones?"
AND FINALLY
8) Because I said so, now spit it out and get back to class!

Because the janitors don't want to deal with all the gum that the lazy kids put under the desk or chair. And sometimes it can get stuck in the carpet which is really hard to get out.

reach under the top of any table in school. If you don't encounter at least one nasty wad of discarded gum, I'll be shocked.

Gum gets into carpets and has to be frozen out. Gets stuck to surfaces and costs money to remove.

Its a nasty, nasty habit. Would you like it if smokeless tobacco users were allowed to leave spit cups all over?

It is unattractive to watch, tends to get stuck in places someone else has to clean up and is basic discipline training. Complying with a simple request from someone in a position of authority is something you'll have to deal with for the rest of your life........lol.........
