How many grams of sugar is our body allowed per day?

Actually, a can of soda has at least 12 teaspoons- picture a chain of 12 of the little pack that you see on restaurant tables taped together...nice chain of disaster.

We use that visual for our patients at my diabetes clinic- 17 for a bottle of soda. Kinda makes the switch to diet a little more reasonable for folks in denial that keep drinking regular soda. That and seeing other patients wheeled in with amputated legs...

Cheers!

A can of Coke has about 40 grams of sugar, or about 10 teaspoons.

There is no RDA for sugar, although the USDA recommends no more than 40 grams a day.

Some are worse than others. Mountain Dew is worst (IIRC) with 14 teaspoons of sugar.

This is not good for a person. Even if you're not diabetic (yet), all that refined sugar being dumped into your system all at once causes your pancreas to pump out a lot of insulin. The insulin makes your body burn the sugar quickly, but then you still have high levels of insulin, so you 'crash'. It's a shock to your pancreas but also to your whole system.

It's not a matter of how much sugar you can have per day. It's all that refined (concentrated) sugar going into your bloodstream all at once! Your blood sugar rises quickly and then falls below normal.

Depends on the soda. All in all soda is HORRIBLE for you. No vitamins or minerals. Fattening, loaded with sugar and caffeine when they aren't "free" of them and over all just a bad choice. Drinking more water will not only make you feel so much healthier, but makes you healthier too. Caffeine pills work great when you need a pick me up. Coke and coke like sodas are just hazardous. They use it to clean roadkill of the ground and can wear away at you teeth over time. Soda sucks don't do it. And yes lol 12tsp does sound correct.

Go to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F10EyGwd57M

There is a science guy who will demonstrate how much is in there.. I watched it and he boiled down the water amnd got the remaining sugar of the pot. On the side of the can of soda it says Carbs-39 gr... so they weren't off.. The science guy boiled it down to 37.. 7 1/2 tsp. = 39 g.
So there you have it..
If you can't see the site- check out www.youtube.com and do a search for: "How much sugar is in a can of soda"
and you'll get the science guy..
Or go to MarshallBrain.com/science
Interesting question. I will never drink soda again!! I wonder how much is in the diet soda's now.. :0
