About a week ago my daughter had what we thought was a cold(fever, congested nose and ears, sore throat, and a cough). Now most of it got better but she still has a fever and her cough has got worse especially at night. Any ideas on what this is?

Sounds like an Upper Respiratory Infection. She needs to be evaluated but a doctor asap. More then likely he will put her on an antibiotic. Fever represents infections. Is she wheezing or having difficulty breathing at night when she is laying down? Does she need several pillows to be able to sleep? Those are the symptoms you would need to look for if you suspect asthma. I doubt it is asthma, because contrary to what people may think, asthma is a 24 7 condition and it is more then a little noticeable throughout day and night. But your answer will not come from here, she needs to be checked by the doctor and at the very least given a antibiotic and possibly, make then likely a chest x-ray to make sure she did not develop pneumonia. Good Luck

Since cough is a symptom of a disease, the problem causing the cough should be treated. Cough due to cold or inhalation of dust particles is not serious and is cured quickly. More information is available at http://www.ailments.in/cough.html

She may have an infection. The fever indicates that there may be an infection. A week is long enough. Take her in to get checked. Make sure they check the ears as well (for infection). She may be asthmatic, but you need to know.

I believe her cold has moved into her lungs. (You didn't give her an antibiotic, correct?). This is a secondary infection, and you'll need an antibiotic to kick it.

You should be giving her tylenol for her fever.

Additionally, this time of year, asthma starts kicking in, so it would be good to let your dr. listen to your child's chest to rule that out, too.

What kind of cough does your child have? Dry--dextromethorphan, Gooey--guafinnesin. According to the type of cough, this is the ingredient in the cough syrup that should help.

Is she wheezing? If you don't have asthma medicine/equipment around, she needs to go to an urgent care clinic or ER.
