It would be difficult to make a steak au poivre without black pepper. Boursin is normally available in a pepper variety.
As a main flavour, no, but black pepper corns go whole into most of my Indian dishes and crushed over steak sometimes over strong tasting cheeses.

It is easy to use for a pepper steak. You can crack the peppercorns with the side of a knife and then press them into the steak that you have already put a flavored rub on. It becomes your own variation on a classic dish.

Yes I love steak au poivre

yup. but different grinds for different dishes. steak au poivre, obviously, needs a coarse grind because the pepper is supposed to act as a 'crust.' but i make an asian lemon pepper soup that calls for fine grind.

professional chefs will tell you to use white pepper because it's visually more attracative than seeing dark flecks in the food, but i disagree. i like to see how much pepper i'm using, and it's hard to see white pepper.

yes, i've grinded lots of it over a chicken breast and put it in the oven wrapped in foil and it's fab. I tend to add black pepper to everything though.
