I don't know about how regular you will become, but I can tell when I'm eating right by what's going on in the bathroom area, to be polite.

Excess protein, especially excess animal protein, will absolutely cause you to lose calcium. Lack of carbohydrates causes ketones to form, and that is what causes your bad odor.

Eating a low-fat vegetarian diet might help your problems. But do consult a doctor and/or nutritionist before making a drastic change.

I really cannot comment on the Atkins diet and the issues you may be having because of it. You might want to speak to a dietician or a nutritionist about that. (Btw - I'm sorry to hear that you are facing those things. Sounds miserable!)
As far as being regular, in a word, yes. I had the same problem as you when I ate meat - I would only go once per day or once every other day.
I've done some research about the human digestive system and I keep seeing over and over again the argument that what goes in must come out. After our bodies are finished absorbing and breaking down the food, it should come out. (research has shown that our bodies really cannot and do not use each part of the food we eat...there is some of it that's just not digestable).
Theoretically, we should go after every meal or at least go as many times per day as we have a major meal. Since becoming a veggie, I am very regular...like clockwork regular. I go as often as I eat. That also stems from vegans and vegetarians eating foods that are high in fibre....we tend to eat those foods more often than meat-eaters.
There's a lot of factors at play here, but from my personal experience, I became quite regular after converting.

I'm not sure that being a vegetarian will necessarily regulate your bowel movements... but it does (at least in my experience) force you to become more health conscious. You can't just get a cheeseburger at Wendy's anymore; you have to put some thought into what you're putting into your body. In your case, you've probably just thrown your body into some kind of shock by doing the Atkins thing... you need to start eating FIBER. Lots and lots of fiber...

Meat does take your body longer to digest than fruit and vegetables. Vegetables and fruits do help regulate your system, so try to eat as many serving as you can per day. You have to be conscious of what you put in your body. Whenever you begin a diet it's best to consult your doctor first.
