Two hours of cleaning and are you sure the mercury is gone? Or is he breathing mercury vapor at night?
Are a few light bulbs worth the health of any of your family members?

Now those damn things are EXPLODING? I have enough problems with the ones which wont light up at all right out of the package. Cant believe all those burearcratic idiots on the left want to mandate this obsolete stupid technology. The standard tube type flourescent, especially in recycled and reconditioned vintage fixtures, are better. Even better than that, push for household LED lights. It would be possible to come up with a power supply and a LED array which could be mounted in a standard edison base and which could be a screw in adaptation using existing fixtures and lamps.
Aside to Cami, ALL flourescent tubes, bulbs and such have mercury in them. The basic principle of flourescent lighting is to run an arc through vaporized mercury and use the resulting ultraviolet radiation to exite a coating of phosphors on the inside of the tube so that this coating emits visible light. There is and probably always will be mercury in flourescent lights.

I'm with you on that issue, not only are those bulbs not recyclable they only give you 1/3 of the light the other bulbs give you so you need 3 lights to get the same amount of light one gave us with the older types, thus using more energy. They will also put all the companies that make dimmer switches and 3 way lights out of business because those bulbs won't work on them.
To clean up any glass use a damp cloth it will pick up the small pieces but be very careful and wear rubber gloves to protect your hands.
Hopefully your son did not get any in him but I have no idea how to fix that if he did, sorry.
Good Luck!

There's a reason nobody seemed too concerned. The amount of mercury in a CFL is tiny, less than .005 grams. Read this.

If you're concerned about breakage, better remove every conventional fluorescent from your house. They contain 2-10 times as much mercury and are much easier to break. Wonder why nobody ever worried about those?

Mercury bulbs!? NO!NO!NO! You need to get flourecent bulbs! they cost about the same as regular ones, and they do save energy! In my household, flourecent bulbs are the only ones we use. They do last quite a while! I would know.
Also : tips on how to get your electricity bill to go down :
1. STOP leaving every single light on.
2. If you are not in a room, the light should be off.
3. Use flourecent bulbs to save money and energy.
4. If you know you are going somewhere for a long time. Leave the lights off.
5. Turn the TV off if no one is using it.
6. Don't use regular bulbs.
Hope it helps!!!!!!!
