Do I sit there and close my eyes and ponder the weather? Or! Do I try and stare down the person on the opposing side of the table?
Or do I read off Darwin's theories?

Please! Help me!

It depends on the circumstance. If I am at a meal and someone says grace, I put my hands in my lap and sit still and think to yourself how nice it is to be sharing some good food with some friends.

In other circumstances, if it is something going on for a while, I might quietly excuse myself.

I was in a hospital once, visiting a friend's 12 year old son who had just had his spinal cord broken by a hit and run drunk driver while riding his bike. The family were born again Christians and at one point they all stood and started spontaneously praying. They reached out for my hands to join them. In that situation, I stood and joined hands with them and I tried my hardest not to cry.

I don't do anything... don't close my eyes or bow my head. Usually I end up just looking around at the people who are praying. And if you're trying to stare down someone across from you, they're probably not Christian lol

I bow my head clasp my hands, and recite in my mind the child's bedtime prayer from the Metallica song Enter Sandman...."Now I lay me down to sleep"...etc. Complete with the next verse "Hush little baby don't say a word..."

If the others are saying a long prayer, I'll get to the chorus and start headbanging.

If is is with loved ones,I bow with them and ponder the weather.I simply refuse and make my view known if it's the door to door type.I don't think sitting at a dinner table with loved ones is the right time to debate the existence of god.It doesn't hurt me,I don't feel hypocritical,as my family is aware of my atheism,I don't actually pray.Peace at the table is more important to me than attempting to argue the existence of god

You behave yourself for the first minute and then after that try to visualize what the most atractive woman at the table looks like naked-however limited your choices may in fact be

Respect other people's belief systems, especially if they're different than your own.

Your time will come to spout off Darwin's theories. It just won't be during someone else's holy time.

I am trying to envisage a situation where I would be put in this position. A funeral is the only thing I can think of. I would lower my head and contemplate the dead person.

Just have a moment of silence until we say Amen. Closing your eyes is optional.
