After fire and a wheel,I think the greatest thing invented was a BED.Imagine the plight of humans without a comfortable bed, where they could forget all the trials and tribulations, all fatigue, miseries ,plights and what not and sleep in the belief that they shall be able to deal with life ably next day.Till to date, a Bed continues to be the most tried and tested friend of human beings.

Seriously, the basket.
Maybe even more important than fire and wheel.
It was the enabling technology for the hunter gatherer SOCIETY. What was society before the basket?
Isn't there anyone here who actually took a basket weaving class in college?
