Hi.Good question! Lets throw in Electrostatic tweeters as well.Everyone prefers their own particular speaker sound as they all add their own sound (colouration). to what they are reproducing. A ribbon tweeter only works well if it is properly integrated with the other drivers in the enclosure.The same rules apply with dome tweeters ,there are good and bad designs.And both need the correct amplification to get the very best out of them. This is more important than the actual speaker design .So it comes down to how they sound to you.You really have to listen to all the speakers in your price range and pick the one that you can live with.Nothing else matters.

EDIT....If i was interested in ribbon speakers i would buy full range ribbons as opposed to hybrids.This would give a seamless integration of bass, mid range, and treble to the sound stage from the individual ribbon drivers.The same goes for full range electrostatics .
