My passport is currently hold by a foreign embassy for a visa application, however, i need to travel to France for 2 days next week. Is any other form of ID accepted? (driving license maybe?)

When travelling from UK to France, you will need your passport. Unlike those from other Euro countries who just need an ID card to travel.

You are not eligible for a US Passport because you are not a US Citizen. I assume you have a permanent resident alien (green) card which of course will get you back into the US after your trip with no problem at all. What you need to find out is if there are any visa requirements for entering Europe using the passport of your nationality. If so, then get the visa(s), which may require a letter from school stating that you are going on an organized academic trip, travel to Europe and come back on the same passport and green card. Enjoy.

I am currently living in France and as long as you have photographic ID such as a driving licence you will be fine. It has to be government issue ID so nothing like student cards but you do not nessisarily need a passport. I was 6 months without one due to losing it and ordering a new one and I have travelled between Uk and France several times

No. A passport is the only accepted ID when traveling between the UK and France. Check with the embassy and see if they can help you.

It is going to depend on your citizenship and the rules and regulations of France. Based on your little information given, I would say the chances of getting into France without a passport are not very good.

Of course, on June 6, 1944 (D-Day invasion) there were no French in sight, much less anyone there to check passports.

A few years ago, I forgot my passport, on arrival in Holland they just asked me to sign a form and I was then free to travel to Germany and back home without any problem.

Yes I driving licence is fine providing it is valid and has a photo. It must be issued within the UK or other European state (US is no good). We do it all the time.

{EDIT} - My god the ignorance here is completely incredible. These people have no idea but still answer the question.

A VALID PHOTO DRIVING LICENCE IS FINE TO TRAVEL ANYWHERE WITHIN EUROPE!!! ESPECIALLY UK, FRANCE, GERMANY, SPAIN, ITALY, ECT ECT.

WE DO IT ALL THE TIME TO SPAIN AND FRANCE! BY SEA AND AIR FROM THE UK WITHOUT ISSUE. I USE MY UK DRIVING LICENCE AND MY WIFE ON HER SPANISH DRIVING LICENCE.

{edit} I find the ignorance displayed here unbelievable. Why do people insist on answering a question that they clearly know nothing about. Unbelievable!!! I hope you find your way through all this BS and see for yourself it will be fine. You can check with the Customs helpline if you want to make sure.

Yes if you're French.
But they wont let you come back.
(actually. The last 2 visits I made to France and across Europe, I wasn't asked for any I.D. at all at any border including the U.K. Just waved through in the car)

If/when ID cards are issued in the UK you could use that for inter EU travel, like other EU citizens that have them. That doesn't help you right now though :o(

We are supposed to be able to travel freely within the EU borders but all the illegals and assylum seekers have ruined that!
