"Should I start wearing them for the sake of my vision?"
No. Provided you wear them to meet legal requirements like driving, the rest is up to you as a (near) adult.
If you don't settle to the glasses within two weeks at most, they either need adjustment to the frames or the lenses.
(most often the former).
But on social anxiety... If you're walking past people on the other side of the street and not saying hello because you don't recognise them, but they've recognised you, then you're not doing yourself any favours.

If you need glasses for distance, don't drive without them--it isn't safe. I can't tolerate contacts so wearing them with regular sunglasses is out. Graduated lenses work fine, but 1.) they're expensive; 2.) they may not offer the kind of UV protection you need if your ayes are light, as mine are; and 4.) they don't polarize light, so glare off the hood when driving directly into the sun still presents a problem. Separate driving sunglasses won't help you on a cloudy, glary day, and they're a nuisance to tote around. What works best for me is a pair of clear driving glasses and some clip ons, a cheap alternative that others have overlooked. They have good UV protection, and you can choose the tint you want for the type of day you encounter. I use amber ones for long night drives on two-lane roads, when others' headlights can cause glare; bronze ones for intermediate days, and dark gray-green ones for real blasters or for beach wear. Sure they look a little dorky, but the Sunglasses Police won't hand you a ticket except when you get into an accident because you were driving without prescription lenses or without sun protection. I also live in an area crisscrossed by rivers, and it's easy to flip them up when going through a tunnel. AND you can often find them on sale, and they're good for the glare on a snowy day, too--if they're polarized.

omg YES, wear them! The reason they make you dizzy is because you aren't wearing them enough for your eyes to get used to them. I was the SAME way...and I paid for it. I was just diagnosed with Glaucoma. I think I had strained my eyes too much (not a proven factor in my diagnosis, but I had way too much pressure on my optical nerve).
The dizziness should only last a few days.
Who cares who is looking at you? Would you rather be blind?
If you are that bothered by the thicker lenses, there are ways to make the lenses thinner. You have to talk to your eye dr. about that. I always pay alittle more for the thinner ones. Considered contacts?

Have you thought about getting contacts? With contacts you would be able to see all of the time and wouldn't have to worry about thinking everyone is looking at you. No one would be able to tell you have in contacts. Also, it would do away with the dizzy feeling when you turn your head fast.

You should try to exercise your eyes by focusing at somthing far and then somthing near by, careful could make you dizzy.
my bro wore glasses but somehow it corrected his vision somewhat and doesn't wear them as often...
then there's my bf and he wears glasses but his eye sight got worse and he's getting more dependant on them.
In class sit some place you can see the board so you don't have to wear your glasses and besides glasses can look pretty cute on a guy =)

i have glasses but i don't wear them too...
but i think wearing them when you only need them is fine... cos' what you want to do is avoid straining your eyes... and wearing them when you need them is just doing that...
don't worry about looking bad in glasses... glasses bring out the best in you :)
