Mercy Killing or one’s right to live or die.

Mind you by one’s right chose to die I do not mean suicide. It is one issue that has been a big controversial topic for years and there has been no definite conclusion about it.. there always have been two opinions about it. Such that even the law makers are indecisive about it.

There are people who believe in it and there are others who consider it unethical.

I personally think the people who consider it unethical have not seen anyone of their near and dear ones slip into a state of vegetable or should I say lifelessness. It’s easy to say that mercy killing is another form of murder or suicide when you hear somebody who was terminally ill and chose to die because we have never even seen the suffering of the person concerned. Or may be for their own selfish reasons and to live upto their religious/moral beliefs, they use somebody else.. those unfortunate people who have no life left to carry out their own wills.

I just hope these self-righteous people never have to face a situation like this in their lives.. or that they do find somebody to end their misery..

Consider a scenario, Mr X has cancer and there is no hope of his survival. He continues to suffer.. those of who don’t know the treatment(if it can be called that!) is as painful as the disease itself… Everyday he begs his family to end his misery, shouting in pain. The family who is taking care of him and love him dearly cannot take his suffering any longer.. dying thousand deaths everyday.. Finally one day they decide to take the extreme step and end his misery once and for all.

Would you call that unethical.. when there was no hope of survival?

Whether we acknowledge it or not.. whether we condemn it or not..

It Exists..

I sure hope this is for a hypothetical...because with out thinking about the reality of the question...there's bound to be some very harsh and bitter remarks.

I have a Living Will...but that is something I discussed with my wife before hand.....there's a point I just want the line drawn and have the doctors let me go.

I wanted it to be my choice...and not have to put the burden of this on anyone else. and to me...that's the key. No other person should ever have to carry the guilt of wondering if they did the right thing or should have waited longer.

I'm not comfortable with it unless it's like Kevorkian and he is doing it for someone who cannot end their pain themselves but who has many witnesses to confirm it's the kill-ee's wish. Other than that ... who's to say the kill-er isn't killing for reasons that only benefit him or her? Tough line to cross.

But I don't believe we should have to stick around in this life and suffer though, if we want to go. I think if we choose to leave this life, it's like the purest sacrifice, especially if you're religious, to end this life and journey to the next.

But even if you aren't, it takes incredible courage and it's a huge act to request of a friend or relative. The ones who are left behind will always be suspect and judged.

HUGE decision. But a personal and private one that is NOT up to the church or the state to interfere in, although it wouldn't hurt if both were consulted.

In my opinion "Mercy Killing" is a quiet painless way to help a terminally sick person "stop the pain".

You Are Dying .....
Imagine laying in your bed 24/7, catheterized both urinal and rectal, because you have no control nor do you have the energy to get up to relieve yourself.
Medi port implanted in your chest for the regimen of shots generally two or three times a day.
Unable to feed yourself or wash yourself.
A family member (husband, wife, Mom, Dad or child) must change your catheter bags -give you injections-feed you and bathe you.

Everyone that comes around is SORRY you are in constant pain, cries over you.
Your friends stop coming around because they cannot stand to see you knowing you will die soon.

Is this life?

Think about it....................................................

It's good in a way, we'll never know what pain a cancer patient undergoes even if he explains it...
in cases of animals with terminal diseases, mercy killing is a must.

And I can tell you that it's absolutely justified where circumstances require, such as ending needless suffering.

A morality that places life - however unwanted - above agony is sadistic and cruel.

there is a bad wreck between a tanker truck and a car. people in the car are dead but the driver in the truck is alive, slightly injured but is hopelessly trapped in the truck and the truck is now on fire. fire prevents any means of helping the man, he will burn to death. a passerby shows up with a gun and shoots the driver dead as the fire starts to burn him. it is considered a mercy killing by most views but by law the passerby committed murder. very complicated, legally and morally
