I customized my Car but I did not change rims or anything. I painted the stock rims, calipers, trims and such and made the car look extra flashy but only spent about 3K on painting ... Should I tell insurance I made these cosmetic updates? Oh also added a exhaust tip worht $50

no just document that you did and take pictures in case something bad should happen to your car

That's what i did, i had my car stolen and was compensated for everything that was aftermarket, around 2000 dollars. But i also had state farm and paid an arm and a leg for it. So they treated me well when i needed help as i treat them well with generous payments.

If you want the "extras" covered by insurance, you will need to inform the insurance company and pay extra. I went through this when a hit and run driver bent my running board. I had full coverage insurance but the company said add-ons were not covered, only the base vehicle. It was explained to me that my premiums were based on the cost of repairing the base vehicle and any extras cost more in premiums.

what your insurance company will do is just add the extra 3000 on as a stated amount on a endorsement and they will make a note in the file about what the 3000 covers. But you do want to add it or they may not pay for the upgrades in the event something happens to the car.
