The recent flooding has been an unusual event; record breaking in many places and has been calculated as a one in a thousand year event. Unfortunately the UK got two such events in just a month, first in the north of England then in the south of England.

Certainly the incidence of flooding has increased dramatically in recent years with some places now being flooded up to six times a year. One of the consequences of global warming is that there will be more flooding, the warmer temperatures accelerates the water cycle by evapourating more water from the seas and oceans which in turn falls as precipitation.

Whilst it’s not possible to blame any single event on global warming it is safe to say that the trend of increased flooding is due at least in part to global warming. With the warming trend continuing the chances of flooding in the future will increase. Many householders, insurance companies, local and national authorities are now taking steps to mitigate against this.

I do not know how the current floods rank, but I remember vividly the floods of 1993. Here is a brief summation of what happened:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Flood_of_1993

I remember these because the town I was living in was nearly cut in half by flooding. Only one of the three bridges across the river remained open for the duration of the floods, and that was an iffy proposition when the waters really began to rise.

As you read through the wiki article, you will see that there have been many great floods in the US. I am not sure where the Ohio flooding ranks yet, but it doesn't seem to be all that unusual to see some significant portion of the US get flooded.

Thus, I do not think we can attribute the flooded to global warming. It is more likely land use problems/changes that makes some of the more recent flooding seem more unusual than it really is.

EDIT:

My note is more of a historical note in that the flooding in the US does not seem to be unusual. By extension, although I have not looked it up, it could be assumed that the flooding elsewhere is not a surprise.

To me, this all points to regional not global effects. Hence, the relevance of my post regarding flooding in the US.

Global warming is very much true and is no conspiracy, one possibility for the extensive flooding in the world is the ice caps are melting. With the icecaps melting raising sea levels causes more precipitation which leads to more flooding. Well this is what i think about it, but there might be other causes.

You do comprehend Australia is the comparable length by way of fact the contiguous states of the US, genuine? the common types we've had in maximum areas are long sessions of decreased rainfall observed by skill of flooding over 7-10 3 hundred and sixty 5 days sessions. Our climate cycles are so different to the northern hemisphere types some have reported we brush aside the belief of four seasons in one 3 hundred and sixty 5 days and concentration extra on the 7 3 hundred and sixty 5 days ENSO version and is the reason extra of the version. The climate predictions are for extra intense droughts interior the southeast (the place i grew to become into living till final week) and extra rain interior the northwest. The drought broke interior the southeast approximately 2 years in the past, and we've had periodic floods on the grounds that then. A style opposing the predictions for the southeast would be if the droughts do no longer exchange into extra intense over the arriving many years and the floods worsen or extra time-honored. the reason we've floods after drought is using the impacts on soils long sessions without water has. known rainfall seeps into bedrock and strikes slowly by using aquifers yet whilst soils are dry they exchange into compacted and this reduces the quantity of water they could take up. it is worsened by skill of issues like deforestation and grazing. once you ultimately get important rain, it runs around the genuine of the soil extremely than being soaked into it like it does whilst rain is known. it is why you get floods after drought. If the drought is worse, then right here floods are additionally in all probability to be worse. So particular, we assume to have droughts and floods as general. We additionally assume the severity of those to alter. come back to us in 30 years time as quickly as we could have had some cycles which will point out what the form is. till then, don't get excited.

It is difficult to say. Global warming averages about 1 degree rise every 100 years, and has been for hundreds of years. This is an avg. for the entire world. Some areas may even have no warming for periods during the cycle. It is very hard to pinpoint specific events or even weather patterns over relatively short periods of time.

I think global warming is true and yes the recent climatic changes are due to global warming. even the floodings and huricaines. even our weather is changing. eg. in west africa, about this period, we should have a break from the rains (we call it august break) but its not happening. it keeps raining. global warming is definitely true.

Yes, never in the history of your life did Europe ever flood. That's proof that global warming is man made.

You must repent now, as the global warming gods are angry.

Why would it be, one day they say the hurrican season will be the worst ever, well that don't happen, now they try to blame the flooding on it,

Warming is susposed to dry things out, not make them wet.

your absolutely right !global warming is because of excessive use of fossil fuels.these fuels when used release carbon dioxide which melts thousands of ice bergs.the water (melted ice bergs)
floods many rivers and maybe in a few years or so if dont stop excessive use of fossil fuels we will be living in a gigantic swimming pool!
