I have no idea what to do therefore want to go to England and America? My parents don't want me to, but I want to.

I would be paying for it with my own money, saving hard out while working at home for six months or so?

Well, as long as it's your own money you're spending, it should be fine.
I have a suspicion that a job would be a faster route to maturity for you than a trip around the world to find yourself. On the other hand, if you're just out of school, you won't be making much money anyway, so if you're going to travel, this would be the year to do it.
As long as you already have the money, that is.

Why not - you can always find bits of work along the way - take one year or 3!
