You can view the version of windows in the following ways:
(1) Simultaneously press the "windows logo key" & "pause/break" key on your key board.
"system properties" window will be displayed. In that window, in the 'general' tab, the windows version will be shown.
(2) Go to the command prompt. (To go to the command prompt, click start - run and type 'cmd' if you use winxp or 'command' if you use an earlier version). Type 'winver' (without the quotes) and press enter. windows version will be displayed.
(3) And last but not the least, the conventional method. Right click "My computer" icon. click 'properties' to see the windows version.

Or - click on "Help", and the bottom drop down window option will be "about windows". Click on that, and it will tell you the version.
Incidentally, this works on any program, if you want to find the version of, for example photoshop.

Right-click "My Computer" and select "Properties". There should be a screen that tells you that information.
