im just wondering does the rear speakers always work? or do they only work in specific times?, i got a DVD player with surround sound system and i hung the 2 rear speakers on the back wall, and i don't find them to work most of time, the connection is connected good so it can't be the problem. only the front speakers always work.

Surrounds only work when the source that you are watching tells them to work. Example: A DVD is decoded in atleast 5.1 Doldy Digital. The DVD plays, the DVD sends the audio signal (via Digital coax, HDMI or Optical) to the audio receiver. The signal from the DVD then is incorporated into the speakers the way the DVD makers intended. With regular television, most shows are only stereo (unless you have digital channels like HBO or HD channels). Then, you would set your receiver to Dolby Pro Logic II or use the ALL STEREO function to enable all 5 of the speakers to be in stereo.

Hi.Have you selected the 5.1 setting on your Receiver,it may be in stereo mode.So the front left, center and front right are all working? Is the volume control turned down for the rears. Are you running a digital connection from the DVD Player to the Receiver .If not you won't get 5.1 sound.Try these first and if no luck let me know and we will look further.
