Ok, I am a man, and I love liquor...like rum, vodka, and whisky. I also love the "fruity" drinks like pina coloda, daquires, and fruity wine coolers. but I've never gotten in to beer. But I'm always told that it is an aquired taste. Well, a lot of times I'm out with the guys at some place that serves beer, but not liquor...so i'm stuck drinking water, and being made fun of. So, I'm sitting here right now, trying to drink this Corona light, and it's hard to get down. So, beer drinkers out there...HOW, and how LONG did it take you to aquire the taste for beer?

the first time i had a beer i tried to sip it like a mixed drink and gagged.
then i was told to take a few big swigs. that helped. it still wasn't as apealing as a mixed drink but i managed to pound enough to get me toasted.
corona in my opinon is camel pee in a bottle.
try sam adams. they are so much better and the seasonal brews kick butt.
the summer ale and white ale out now aren't harsh at all. i really like them. the cherry wheat is one you might like too.
the pale ale is awesome too.
don't get me wrong i'm a huge mixed drink girl but sam adams is the only beer i drink

I can't even remember how long it took, but not too long. Yeah, some people never acquire a taste for it. I used to sample a very wide variety of beers and a friend of mine characterized that as drinking the urine of different animals.

I consider Corona light to be borderline adequate, so maybe something higher up the food chain will work better for you. There's too many choices to mention here, but next time you might try an India pale ale (IPA), A Czech pilsner like Urquell, or a stout or porter.

One thing you should know about beer is this: once you've acquired a taste for the good stuff, you'll have a hard time going back to drinking the ersatz commoditized brews like Bud, Coors, etc.

Enjoy.

Yes, beer is an acquired taste and here is reason why: Beer has three key incredients: water, malt, and hops. The third ingredient is the reason it is an acquired taste. The second can be a contributing factor. A hop is a herb; it is a flower that comes from a vine related to the cannibis plant. It smells "floral" (well sort of) and tastes bitter. It is the traditional flavor of beer and before refrigeration was key to preserving beer. Most people have no experience with this herb which has a strong flavor. As with any strong flavor, your body is going to react with shock when first exposed to it. Think about the first time you ate a chili pepper or something else with a strong and distinctive flavor. Did you have to get used to it? The malt is specially treated barley where the starch has been converted into sugar. Before it becomes beer in the brewing process, it tastes sweet and a little nutty. It's like dissolving brown sugar in water. You are probably reacting to the "hop" flavor which you either love or hate. To get away from the hops try beers which are maltier and balances the hop flavor. These will also be "heavier" tasting more substantial and sweeter. Varieties like stout, porter, or traditional German lagers fit this bill. Avoid most microbrews and English Ales. Some people also are offended my "malty" flavors. Harder to get away from this but I'd suggest lite European beers like a Pilsner, light continental lager like a Heineken, or the American mass produced beers. Many of these replace malt with other sugars to lighten up the brew.

I was just going to say the same exact thing as nataliexoxo.
Try Sam Adams, don't mess around with skunky beers like corona, or rocky mountain pi$$ water. Go for the good stuff try some of the micro brews like Fat Tire, Pete's wicked ale, Arrogant Bastard Ale, Sierra Nevada...
I am not a beer drinker, my husband is but I have tasted and can tell the dfference btwn good beer and cheap beer

the commercials make Corona sound good. Try a variety, but I feel it is an acquired taste. I like Bud-Lite with tomato juice, and a shot of hot sauce. A "mixed" drink beer. The beer you choose will change the taste also, I prefer the bud lite.

It's definitely an acquired taste. I think the time it takes to like it varies from person to person.

Corona Light is kind of....eh. If you like fruity, try a beer with a fruity undertone (Pete's strawberry blonde is one). Blue Moon is a good one to try too. I would avoid anything really dark for now. Stick with lighter beers until you get used to it.

Also, I personally need my light beer to be ice cold. It gets funny tasting when it's warm.

Oh and screw your friends for being rude. Drink what you like.

I grow up with my dad giving me small sips when my mom wasn't looking and I've always liked it, but some kinds like Corona, Schlitz, Coors, Milwaukee's best, etc. I don't like. If you can find it try Tequiza it's my favorite, kinda sweet and not so bitter I know most people don't like it but try different kinds maybe you can find one you like.

DOn't bother, and just find snappy retorts to your friends insult. Why spend extra money on something that you have to learn to like.
