People believe all they hear & put all dogs of that breed in the same classification. Sadly!!! My daughter has three Pits that have been raised with my two granddaughters, ages 4 & 6, and they are very well behaved, inside pets. Pits do get a bad rap because of the way some people have raised them!!

Because people can not think for themselves. They let the TV news and newspapers make their mind up. To add to the problem most people, including police and AC officers have no idea what a pit looks like. When given a test 5to see if animal control officers knew what a pit bull was most could not in three trys. You also never hear about any other dog attacking. IN Las Vegas a two year old boy was attack by the family chocolate lab. The boy almost lost his eye had to have surgery and was in the hospital for a week. Never read about or saw it on the news. AC never came out to check. How do I know, It was my great nephew. My pit bull is a trained service dog and is out in public all the time. He dose not wear a muzzle and he as never so much as barked mean at anyone. The only person he ever went for was the guy breaking in to my home. There are over 5 million pit bulls in this9s country, if they were as dangerous as it is made out they are, would there not be 100s of attacks everyday and more than 3 deaths by pits every year.

With regards to one of the other answers, So maybe two pit bulls attacked, OK. How were they trained? Where were the owners? How many other dogs have attacked people and not made national news? I guess it's just easier to blame a "bully" breed. More news worthy! ANY dog can attack and be vicious. and as far as the test goes, it's great! People will mistake Pits for anything

Because people hear something on the news or READ something in the newspaper and think it's the gospel truth. Are those newspaper reporters dog breed experts? You think - man gets bit by pomeranian is going to sell newspapers? Heck no. You think that a pit bull was the only dog that bit someone today? Get over yourself. Today in this country, probably 100,000 people were bitten by some type of dog that required some sort of medical care. Where are all 200 lbs man bit by chihuahua, I'm scared to leave the house because my neighbor's chained up their beagle, a labrador retriever was loose in the neighborhood and killed a squirrel - where are those stories? I'll tell you where - they didn't even make it to the cutting room floor.
It used to be GSDs, then dobies, then rotties, now its the pitts. And I agree, I took the test and it took me 4 clicks before I actually picked the pitbull. I stand corrected. I promised to forever refer to them as staffordshire terrier.
Let me ask you something - oh smarties that read the paper. Would you have thought anything of an article that read stafforshire terrier attacks woman? Oh no, because pitbull has that "I sell newspapers" ring to it.

Because they're simple minded idiots who cant think for themselves, so they rely on the media to educate them, when in truth, it's the media that needs educating. I own a pitbull, and have no problems with him whatsoever. I'm sick of people making assumptions about him based on his breed. It's wrong, which is why we have racial profiling laws for humans. All these dumbas*es that think pits are evil need to read up on the facts THEMSELVES instead of having a tv feed them information.
oh, and thats a great test, btw, i've referred people to it many times.

Because they are ignorant. People believe what they hear in the media, so they think that "pit bulls" are these born killers when in reality, that's so far from the truth! First of all, "pit bull" is NOT a breed. "Pit bull" is a term used to group three breeds, American Pit Bull Terriers (APBT), American Staffordshire Terriers (AmStaff) and Staffordshire Bull Terriers (Staffie). If the media is claiming that a dog is a "pit bull", right away I know it's crap! If they did their research they would know that "pit bull" isn't a breed and if it truly was a "pit bull" breed they would say APBT, AmStaff or Staffie. Also, there are 25+ breeds that are commonly mistaken as the "pit bull" breeds, if people don't even know what the hell a "pit bull" is, how are we supposed to expect them to properly ID one?! Another thing is that the statistical data on dog bites and attacks are inaccurate. Many dog bites are never reported. There is nothing in place to track dog bites in the US accurately. The media reports what people want to hear so that they can get their ratings and it's sad, but crazy, twisted around, over dramatic, false crap like.. "Blood thirsty, man eating pit bull kills 5 children and an old lady!!" gets a lot more ratings than.. "Pit bull hero in Holly Hill", "Pit bull saves other dogs with its blood", "Pit bull saves owner from two armed attackers", "Pit bull dies saving owner from a house fire", "Pit bull dies saving owner from armed attackers", "Pit bull saves child from snake" and other TRUE stories like that! My husband and I own three APBTs and they are the most wonderful dogs in the world! It's funny that people want these breeds banned when they know nothing truthful about them! Most people would read this and think it is describing a Lab or a Golden.. "That sly smile, those determined eyes, that unwaning pleasure to please.... good-natured, amusing, extremely loyal and affectionate family pet, which is good with children and adults. Almost always obedient, it is always eager to please its master." But surprise, surprise that is the APBTs temperament described by dogbreedinfo.com! Just to say a little about the breed, APBTs are one of the most stable, people-friendly breeds in existence! In temperament testing they always test higher than MOST popular family breeds such as Goldens and Beagles and they are the perfect breed to have with children! APBTs are additionally one of the most intelligent and easy to train breed of dogs. The trainer of the show dog Lassie has even remarked on how the APBT is his choice of breed for training. They are currently used and suitable for all types of service work including drug detection, emergency rescue, service and therapy work, military service, and much more. The "pit bull" breeds were bred to fight animals, but they were also bred to be the absolute best family pet you can get! "pit bulls" do tend to be dog aggressive if they are not properly socialized starting at a young, but they are NOT known for being human aggressive! In fact, "pit bulls" are three of the ONLY breeds that have been specifically bred to be amazingly human friendly! Okay, I'm done! lol! I am sooo passionate about this! Once I get started it's so hard for me to stop, I always end up rambling on and on! lol! Anyway, that's what I have to say about this! : )
take a look at this.. http://www.prweb.com/releases/Heroic_Pit_Bull/Dog_book/prweb547786.htm
Oh, here are some videos you might enjoy, I definitely have! The first two are about APBTs, they make me even more proud than I already am to be the owner of the unbelievable dogs!

Keep on educating people! It may not seem to help and I definitely know how that feels, but trust me, it does more than you know! On behalf of all of the wonderful "pit bulls" and "pit bull" owners, thank you for getting the truth out and keep up the good work! : )
"For years pit bulls have been fighting for their owners, now we must fight for our pit bulls!"
