Someone told me the Dalai Lama is greedy and not what he appears to be. Do think that is true? I think he's a great man and he has to be the happiest person on earth. Nobody could fake that smile that just shines like he turned a light on. But I could be wrong! lol

Everybody has an agenda. There are those on here who will tell you that Mother Teresa exploited the poor, that the Dalai Lama is helping India grow it's nuclear program, and that George Bush is a great president. Don't believe half of what you read, and none of what you hear.

The other thing to keep in mind is that everybody's human.

Yes I agree with Muse! Bodhi [enlightenment] and sattva [being]. And their reason for becoming a Buddha is to help others. The Bodhisattva will undergo any type of suffering to help another sentient being, whether a tiny insect or a huge mammal. In Shakyamuni Buddha’s 'Perfection of Wisdom in 8,000 Lines' it states: “I will become a savior to all those beings, I will release them from all their sufferings." If this sounds familiar to anyone not acquainted with Buddhism, then you only need to think of the example of Jesus Christ, a true Bodhisattva in Buddhist tradition. Now it seems that The New Kadampa Tradition is making waves. I think there is an ongoing feud with the Dali Lama, even organizing demonstrations in England about some doctrinal change the Dali Lama made some years back. Some critics have accused the NKT of having cult-like qualities and laying too much stress on collecting contributions for construction of new temples in the U.S. I am not sure what changes the Dalai Lama has made. As far as Jesus....... John 14:6 states...... Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." {:>)

Not at all. The Dalai Lama is no less a real person
than any other man. And he might as well be asked
if he's a descendant of the very first Buddha.
Of course, he isn't. But I've read a book that he had
written an introduction to. In "One Dharma" (written
by Joseph Goldstein), he is quoted as saying that
even he does get angry. But he does not allow him-
self to hold a grudge.
This is probably no less true of the original Buddha.
It's a common misconception that Buddhism is a
religion--but it's no such thing. It's a philosophy. And
even the Buddha was an ordinary man of his day--
over 2,500 years ago--who sought enlightenment.
(He was not perfect; he was just very, very wise.)

Some people lie all the time. There is no evidence the Dalai Lama is anything other than as he appears.

I'm not competely sure, and I'm too tired to look it up, but I thought Tibetan monks took a vow of poverty. That right there means he's not greedy. That man has some wisdom to share with the world if they'd just listen. I would love to spend some time with him.

I really wish I can meet Dalai Lama one day in this life of mine. To learn from him and find answer for myself... He is a very wiseman. Have faith in what you believe in.

I do think that he is not what he says he is. He may believe that he is the reincarnation of the previous dalai lama since he has been taught that since birth, but that doesn't make it true. He just may be a happy good person, but he is just a person whose followers have chosen to deify.
