The meaning to life is individual. Everyone has their own individual purpose, inspiration, and reason for being here. Some people discover why they're here, and others get a little lost along the way. What is certain is that we will know after we pass from our physical bodies what we have achieved, and what we need to go back to accomplish.

We all require our lives to have worth. To have worth is the same as meaning. We have meaning when we live our life for our purpose of life.

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell

So, your question presumes the existence of God.

When people tell you to create your own meaning, what they are really telling you is how to keep living in the face of the utter black despair of a Godless, meaningless universe. Keep busy, think only positive thoughts and boost your ego by doing good deeds - psychological tricks you can play on yourself.

So it's either seek God or seek ways to fake yourself out.
