It is caused by bacterial infection in the stomach. Almost everybody experiences it after middle age. If it is serious, go see a doctor. If it is mild and infrequent, don' worry too much. You can get some relief by drinking some water or eating some food. Try to cut down on smoking and coffee. Eliminate tomato from your diet.

The two answers you have received are good. Do not overlook being an over eater, or being over- weight. Also hanging upside down like a bat after eating does not help. Especially after a big fat laden meal. Bats eat fruit and veggies, so when they hang upside down they rarely get GERD. Eat like a a bat, see your troubles vanish.

Pregnancy sometimes causes heartburn, but it goes away after birth. That is caused by pressure. Whatever the reason for the pain, be aware that it can cause damage to your esophagus, so act now and solve the problem.

This could be due to gastritis.

Avoid spicy food. Finish your dinner and wait at least 4 hours before you go to bed.

Lift your bed post (head) 6 inches by placing some bricks or wooden blocks.

If the condition persists a physician.
