IF YOU HAVE NOTHING NICE OR SERIOUS TO SAY ABOUT THIS....THEN DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL!!!!!

I believe in it and mostly because my great grandma and lots of my other great grandmas did it, but not like waving a magic wand and turning someone into a toad...thats just dumb!!!!
I know a little, like it's not black or white, it's what ever you make it...right?
I really want to learn it, but if I try teaching myself I know I'm going to mess up!! I look around the internet a lot but all of it looks like junk!!! I need some major help!
How many years does it take to learn it???
What am I sopose to do to learn it??

Help

First of all don't listen to everyone that tells you it's satanic. They don't know anything about it. They're just blowing smoke.

Try finding a Wicca meeting group in your area.
http://www.meetup.com
or try yahoo groups.
This one has lots of groups listed too.
http://www.witchvox.com

I'm not a practitioner, but I find lots of stuff interesting. You just have to start reading everything you can get your hands on. Here are a couple of sites that I found. I haven't fully explored them, but what I read was interesting. They aren't about just Wicca there is other neat information there too. Good luck!

First thing I would like to answer is the how many years questions. Wicca is a type of religion that you are always learning. I have been wiccan for 10 yrs now and I am still learning. I know wiccans who have been practitioners for 30+ years and they are still learning things. Second perhaps try www.witchvox.com. this site usually has some good things. when I first started learning as well my mom bought me a book by Silver Ravenwolf called Teen Witch. I found it as a good book. good luck in your endeavers and if you have any questions feel free to email me

Blessed Be

Edit: Also Lord Amanraha would be a good source. check out the sites and info in his. =)

Er. I suspect that you really mean Wtichcraft rather than Wicca, because Wicca hasn't been around long enough for your great-grandmothers to have been practicing; in the early years it was ABSOLUTELY secret, and only a handful of people practiced. It stretches credulity to think that your great grannies were ALL in that group.

BTW, one can only have 4 great grandmothers, unless some of your 4 great-grandfathers remarried.

If you actually want to learn Traditional Wicca, you will have to find a teaching coven/teacher, because you can only learn the "outer court" stuff (i.e. the beginner's stuff) from books. And you'll have to wait a bit to be taught in any case, because no *reputable* Wiccan coven will teach anyone under 18

(I noticed that you asked about ideas for your 15th birthday party when i visited your other questions)

And, frankly, you need to find a teacher for any form of Witchcraft that you are interested in pursuing. It would help you a lot to know what KIND of Witchcraft your great grannies practiced. It apparently was not a family line thing, or someone in each generation in your family would know it, unless it's the type that has to be passed only to daughters and the line stopped having female children for a generation or two.

I really recommend that you ask anyone in your family who might know about what your great grannies practiced. Someone may be able to give you enough information to help you.

Also, what ethnicity are you? I ask this because there are types of Witchcraft that are essentially culturally-based, like Strega, Voudun, and Santaria. If your great grannies were all Italian, Haitian, or South American that would give you a starting place.

And you are correct in that a LOT of the stuff on the internet is junk.

STAY AWAY from online schools or anyone who asks you for money or sex to teach you. They are frauds.

Wicca was started in 1951 by Gerald Gardner. it is not that old. if you are looking into a family line of witchcraft, you amy want to start with your family.

Wicca however young, is a valid religion. and it does work.
i would suggest that you listen to (YA users) Prarie crow, and Ariel Moondust. as they are both knowlegable on the subject.

reading books by Scott cunningham would be a good start also.

Myself, i am a Celtic Pagan, not a Wiccan. but if you have questions i would invite you to add my 360 to your friends list, or to e-mail me. i will answer whatever i can, and try to help you find the rght direction for what i cannot answer.

a million people may help you, but in the end it is your journey to make. keep the "Harm None" rule at heart untill you are experienced enough to make decisions about your greater fate. and you will not go wrong.

Welcome

Blessed be and be blessed.

It sounds like what you are actually asking about is Witchcraft, of which Wicca is one of the youngest branches, so It's not likely that it is what your great grandma practiced.

I would take Raven's Voices' advice and see what you can find out about your family background to see if you can find out where the Witchcraft came into your family from.

It may very well be that your great grand, your grand, or even your mother is waiting for you to ask about it so that the decision is one you make on your own, without you having been prompted.

Witches and Wiccans do not go looking for students to teach, the students look for them.

merry meet!

prairie and ariel are quite right and have made excellent reading suggestions, as has yogi. you will do very well if you listen to them!

other books, in addition to the ones mentioned, are A Witch Alone by Marion Green, The Real witches Craft by Kate West and A Witches Notebook by Ravenwolf [this 3rd one i have found less useful than the others, but as a beginner it is a good idea to read as much as possible and sift the better ones out that you feel suits you ]

there are, sadly, many ignorant people who cling to the myth that wicca, pagan, druid, witches etc are 'servants of the devil'. this is patently untrue.
all of us keep the rede of 'an harm ye none' and revere mother nature. some send blessings to deities, some do not. it is up to you which direction you take as long as it is with good intent.

i am a pagan celtic witch. if you want to know anything, email me your questions.

merry part, and merry meet again!

brightest blessings upon you and your Journey

Look up a book called "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" by Scott Cunningham. It will give you pretty much all the information you need to start practicing the religion on a day-to-day basis.

You can also find Wiccans and other Pagans near you through the Witches of the World section at Witchvox:

http://www.witchvox.com/xvn.html

Just use the pull-down menus on the left to find individuals, groups, shops, and events in your area.

Best of luck, and blessed be.

you need to find a mentor you are comfortable with and have that person teach you...as far as how long it takes....
i know people that have been practicing wicca or some form of paganism for 20 or more years and not yet mastered it.
it is something that will take you a life time to learn.
in other words you will never know all there is to know.
