in the navy? how much time do you spend on land? are their women anywhere?

Depends on the ship and the tempo of operations.

Deployments are usually six months long, but can be longer; a friend of mine was on a carrier that deployed for eleven months.

Aside from the long deployments, there are many other underway periods. These last from a couple of days to several weeks.

I was stationed on an oiler (none are in active service now) and we were underway constantly.

depends on the "sea duty" type, aka type of ship you are stationed in, what fleet you are part of (op tempos), etc, some can be weeks, some can be months submerged, like in a Ballistic Submarine. One time we spent 92 day submerged, with no sight of sky, land, or even the sea itself for all that time, since there are no windows in combat subs...
