I have been stuttering and stammering lately and I don't really know why. I feel sort of funny asking a doctor what may be wrong. I have a slight tremor in my hands and a calcified cyst on my pineal gland. I also have high blood pressure. What could be wrong and how can I stop it? I try to say something, I know what I want to say and I can't seem to remember the word I want to say. I know it right before I try to say it, then I blank. Could this be an early sign of dementia? It also seems that words and letters dance on a page now when they never did before. What do you think?

Hi Lindsey,

Sorry to hear about these problems you are having. Well, it would seem to me that age is on your side~that's not to say it can't be anything serious. Are you on medication(S) and if so, have you recently taken a new medication or combination of meds?? If you haven't already you NEED to discuss these symptoms with your doctor, it could be nothing more than needing a change of meds. Please do not delay in making that call, OK? Good luck and god-bless....keep me posted, you can contact me directly through my 360 site

Is there any drooping in your face, Slight downward pull on one side or the other? It almost sounds like a minor or a mini stroke. With the high blood pressure, that makes it completely possible. Get to a doctor, or better yet an Emergency Room RIGHT AWAY!

I don't think at 23 it is early dementia but I think it could be something going on in your brain, especially since you have a history of a brain problem. It is definitely worth getting checked out, don't feel weird asking the doc about it, it is an actual symptom. Not to scare you though, it could just be psychological. Get it checked out nevertheless.

Good luck!

One family member didn't start stuttering until he was an adult. Don't know why. Check out The Stuttering Foundation's web site at www.stutteringhelp.org or call them. Try their book "Self Therapy for the Stutterer" as that was the biggest help to my family.
