I noticed a few white spots on my stomach when I was about 13 after tanning in a tanning bed. Since then, I've developed them almost everywhere; my back, stomach, neck, and chest. I've read that it's a fungus caused by the sun which eats away at your pigment. I'm going to the dermatologist next week but just wanted to know if it can be cured? Will my skin ever go back to being spot free? And do I have to stay out of the sun in order to be spot free? I'll never use a tanning bed again, by the way....

Yes it can be cured it is called Tinea versicolor, I jsut went through it and the dermo prescribed a cream. They disappeared with in a week or two. You dont have to stay out of the sun, just make sure you are wearing sunscreen.

It is a fungus that everyone has and sometimes that fungus becomes over active and thats what causes the white spots.

Sounds like you ended up getting sun poisoning, not sunburned. Go back and talk with your doctor or set up an appointment with a dermatologist.

use sunscreen when in the sun, stay out of tanning beds, and see a dermatologist.

There are a couple of things this can be.

It can be something you are born with, but don't notice until trying to get a tan.

It can be a disease, that can be treated and reversed.

It can be another disease that can be stopped but not reversed.

It can be yet another disease that cannot even be stopped.

Whatever it is, your dermatologist is the best one to advise you.

And stop damaging your skin trying to get a tan!
