there are 6 different tabs with a bunch of formulas. Change one thing on one tab and it affects the other tabs. the problem is there is one tab that when i click on it there is a 45 second delay before i can see the information. it is as if it is calculating but i know it is not because all of the other tabs have no delay. also the file takes a long time to open. how can i fix this. it was not doing this before. has the file become corrupt?

You can try turning off autocalculation and see if this makes a difference.

Tools -> Options, click the Calculation tab and then click the manual button. Then click OK

If this does not help it may be a reference in that worksheet (tab) to an external file.

45 seconds is way too long to wait for normal opening. You mention that it was not doing this before. Before what? Try and think what you may have been doing that could have caused this change in behavior.

The file is not corrupt since the other 5 tabs are working well. Are your formulas in the difficult to open tab pointing to other files or in another worksheet? Also, maybe the formulas in that particular tab is very complicated that it takes 45 seconds for the excel to do the computation. You can fix the problem either by opening the file in which the formula refers to or by removing the other formulas (copy paste special value) of those cells that doesn't need to be recalculated. Otherwise, patience is great virtue.. 45 sec is not too long.
