Are you trying to teach him to 'drop it' or are you just playing and trying to teach at the same time? I have found that when training it's best to stop before the dog tires and becomes bored, so you can end the training on a good note, with your dog doing a thing correctly. But if you're just playing and not so much concerned with training, maybe your dog has just tired of the game, and this is his way of telling you...?

I would start training the dog on how to drop the ball when you say drop.. when you say drop and he does it give him praise and a treat. My dog used to do the same thing and I did that for about a 2 weeks and now he drops the ball for me.

Try to pull the ball out of his mouth softly. Dont keep pulling it hard cuz he will think it is a game of Tug-and-war. Tell him to drop it.give him a little tap andyell "drop it!" But this is what I did.;; Take two of his fav toys. throw one. He will go get it. Then when he comes back. He will see the other toy you have. And he will drop the one he has. you will throw the one you have. and keep doing it like that. He will get used to giving the toy to you.
HOPE IT HELPS!! =))

When we want our dog to release something, we say "Drop it!" If that doesn't work, then lift his head so he will be looking at you. Hold onto the ball and gently start to pull it out of his mouth while repeating "Drop it!" Don't shout at the dog very loudly, just be strict. When he does let go/drops it, praise him by saying "Good boy!"

Pinch both sides of his lower jaw... the pressure will usually case him to open his moth and the ball will come out. Say "Drop it" as he opens his mouth, then praise him.
You could also distract him by offerng somethng else that IS allowed in the house to see if he takes it.

I taught my dogs as older pups to drop it. It comes in handy when they pick up something harmful. If he will sit and stay confuse him with a drop it command as you grab it out of his mouth. If your dog is to be safe you have to get him to release what ever it is you don't want him to have. Don't afraid of a loud "drop it" , It freezes them just long enough to grab what ever you want to get away from him. The only thing I couldn't get away from my dogs is a fresh caught rabbit. They are touchy about food they caught themselves.
