I just got a kitten the other day. He has been neutered, so im guessing hes at least 6 months but no more than a year. I feed him kitten chow twice a day. He seems to have diarrhea, for the past two days of owning him. Could it be that he is adjusting to my home and is scared? Or could it be something bigger? The vet checked him out and said he was fine.

At night I notice he starts acting very differently. He jumps and runs around faster than he does during the day. I dont know how to stop him from doing this.Could this also be a reason for his upset stomach?

Any help me and Willie would appreciate!! Any other tips on raising a kitten let me know also. Thanks so much.

I got the kitten from my dogs vet. I bought the food from him. As for the worms, he got his first set of worm shots already and im going back next week for the second set. I don't give him milk because I'm so used to giving water to my dog that i thought he would drink water alos. Should I be giving my kitten milk?

It could be that he's still adjusting; Diarrhea can happen if he's nervous. That can happen to anyone. So he still may be getting to know the "lay of the land."

Did the vet say anything about the kitten chow. Thinking it may be too rich to be fed to the little guy twice a day. Talk to the vet, by phone, and ask him/her if this could be the case for the diarrhea. If so, what would be some alternatives for one or the other feeding for the day.

By night time he probably has gotten rid of the food he has eaten during the day and now he's feeling better. Thus the running and jumping around. The running and playing isn't giving him an upset stomach. It's like I said about, he's feeling better by night time and he's making up the lost play.

Don't think you're going to stop him. That's what kittens do. They play, play, play until they tire themselves out and then it's nap time until it's time for another round of play.

Be patient with him. He's still a baby. He'll settle down when he starts getting a little older, maybe in 10 or 12 years.

Just having a little fun .... he'll settle down sooner then that. The "key" here is patience.

don't give him milk this will only upset his stomach more. He will be a little more active at night because cats are nocturnal animals. For the diarrhea it could be the change in cat food, he ate some of the dogs food, or he may have a bit of a reaction to the worm shot. Your best bet is to call the vet and ask for some advice.

First the diarrhea, it could be the food, if it is different then what he was being fed the switch can cause this. But it could be a parasite. Did the vet test a stool sample, if not bring one in to your vet. Also its a good idea to let your vet know your kitten has been having diarrhea, they will tell you how to proceed. Now the pm playfulness. Cats are nocturnal. It is in his nature to be active at night. If he were a wild animal he would be hunting at night and sleeping during the day so you probably aren't going to fix this. Just remember to not give any positive reinforcement (i.e. food/treats) as this will only encourage the behavior. In my house the cat has free run of the house at night except the bedroom, we shut the door.

If the only food he is getting is kitten chow ( no treats from the table), then it is probably a change in his water and should pass in a few days. Very similar to when you go on vacation and get diarrhea problems, every city has slightly different chemicals in their water so it can take awhile to adjust to it. Cats are nocternal animals and he will be much more active at night, until he grows up and starts sleeping 20 hours a day like mine do.

The diarrhea may be from a change of food from what he was fed before you owned him. It should get better with time. My vet told me that changing a kitten's diet can do that.
As for the night activity, that's normal. My cat and kitten do the same thing. They just get nuts at night because they sleep all day. Mine do anyway.
Here is a helpful hint for owning a cat that helped me. Buy a scratching post, and put cat nip on it to attract him to it. It saved my furniture!!! Also give him lots of love.

Well the reason why he acts differently at night is because cats are nocturnal animals and tend to get more active during the night so that is normal...

For the diarrhea try to switch the food you are giving him becasue that might be what is upsetting his stomach..

Also dont feed him any human food or cows milk because that can also cause this.

Hmmm.... based on when we got my cat Marcie we had the same problem. The way we solved it was changing her food. Just as one of the answers already here said do not give him milk. It should clear itself up with time. If he is active and playful and doesn't show any signs of pain I'd say that he'd be fine. Just try changing the food brand or possibly trying a specific mix just for kittens. Best of luck to you Amanda & Willie. ^.=.^

It's good that the vet said he was fine. It's normal for kittens to act kooky and just run around for no reason. Make sure you're not feeding your kitten any cows milk, it's not good for their tummy. Pet stores sell special milk that is OK for cats.

Hello i would say that you should worm him. Get stool and take it in to the vet to be cheked for worms. And the running around i would say is just him playing as my cats/kittens do the same thing!!

He may be adjusting to the different food.I would try to find a food with no corn, wheat or soy.And as for the running around at night, cats do this. It's called the "midnight crazies!"
